    1. Sir John Pate . . .
    2. Jeremy Utt
    3. Sorry for the third email, but I would like to get some information (ideally, information that is accurate and provable) on Sir John Pate (Baronet? of Sisonby, Leicestershire). Is this Sir John Pate, husband of Elizabeth Skipwith, the father of the Maj. Thomas Pate who immigrated to Virginia and who was a Magistrate for Gloucester, VA? John Ben Pate, in "History of Turner County" mentions that Maj. Thomas Pate was Magistrate in 1686. I think that Sir John Pate was his father, but I do not know for sure. Jeremy Utt Powhatan Co., VA

    3. I forgot to give you the generations going back to Maj. Thomas Pate and his English father! Here they are (with Rev. William Pate's repeated): Generation 8) REV. WILLIAM PATE married Temperance "Tempty" Parkerson (John Ben Pate claims that Rev. William Pate was married three times, that Tempty Parkerson was his third wife, and that he was a patriot in the Revolutionary War.) Generation 9) JACOB PATE married Zilla Broach Generation 10) MATTHEW PATE married Anne Reade (daughter of Francis Reade, and granddaughter of George Reade, who is a qualifying ancestor for the Jamestowne Society) Generation 11) MAJ. THOMAS PATE married Elizabeth ??? Generation 12) SIR JOHN PATE (supposedly Baron of Leceistershire) married ??? Thanks, Jeremy B. Utt Powhatan Co., VA

    1. Jeremy Utt's Pate Ancestors
    2. Jeremy Utt
    3. Greetings! My name is Jeremy Utt, and I am a descendent of the Pates of central Georgia (Crisp, Dooly, Pulaski, Turner, and Wilcox counties). Much of the information that I have on my Pate ancestors comes from closely related family members, and from "History of Turner County" (authored by John Ben Pate). Certainly, I want to find out more about my Pate ancestors than what I already know, and I also want to prove (or disprove?) any theories that may be correct (or incorrect?) in John Ben Pate's records of my ancestors. Well, let me go ahead and tell you what I know (or think I know) about my Pate genealogy (note: this is not a complete or comprehensive showing of my knowledge about the Pates): Generation 1) JEREMY B. UTT (B: 1981 in Richmond, VA) Generation 2) Edwin D. Utt married KAREN L. PATE (B: 1956 in Richmond, VA) Generation 3) WILLIAM B. PATE, SR. (B: December 24, 1923/24 in Crisp Co., GA) married Dorothy T. Mitchell Generation 4) ADDIE LEE PATE (B: 1896 in ???) married Viola "Ola" Gilbert (Married: 1914, Turner Co., GA) Generation 5) WILLIAM BENNETT PATE (B: December 2, 1872 in ???) married Victoria (V. V.) Love (Note: Victoria Love was his first wife, and Maud Odom was his second wife) (Married: 1892, Dooly Co., GA) Generation 6) JOHN THOMAS PATE (B: ???) married Henrietta Kirkland (Marriage: circa 1870 in Wilcox Co., GA) Generation 7) JAMES PATE (B: ???) married Jane Moore Generation 8) REV. WILLIAM PATE married Temperance "Tempty" Parkerson (John Ben Pate claims that Rev. William Pate was married three times, that Tempty Parkerson was his third wife, and that he was a patriot in the Revolutionary War.) Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeremy B. 3. Jinks: Reference AL77. My notes show a marriage license issued in Marshall Co AL 29 Jan 1844 for a John Pate and Mary Isbell Sloan. They married 1 Feb 1844 and license was recorded at Pg 205, 1836-1846 Bk. She previously was married and had daughters. Later he supposedly "absconded", as in ran off, with one of his step daughters deserting his wife, step children and children. He must have taken off early on (1844-1850) as she is shown as head of house in 1850 Marshall Co Question - was the name Isbel (Isbell) in her name perhaps a maiden name or a married name rather than a middle name? 2. I can't answer your questions about the marriage(s) of Eliza Pate Jourdan (Jordan). I was in Vienna Public Library and found that article on a divorce and thought someone might be interested. As I read the article, it appears that William Henry Pate is the son and he was born in Oct after the husband left her 31 Aug. 1957. I found the three counties that I searched each had some overlapping records and that made for easier research. I was there to find info on Josephine Johanna Pate and I left more confused then ever. The mother of Josephine had several marriages and there seems to be children associated from each marriage. Marriage and divorce was the name of the games being played. Josephine J Pate married a Maddox and they are the great grandparents of my husband. I do know that Josephine Pate and Maddox are buried in Carter County Oklahoma. My mother-in-law lived to be 95 years old and died a couple of years ago and the family spoke of and visited her grandparents. If you connect and would like more info, I will help if I can. By the way, Maddox was born and came from Beaver Damm, Ohio County Kentucky. Married there had one daughter. Wife disappears from records and Maddox moved with baby daughter to Montgomery County Kansas and lived there for about nine years. His father (his mother had died) and two brothers were in KS with him. The father went and one brother went back to Ky (one brother died in KS) while Virgil Stewart Maddox took his small daughter and went to Texas. In Texas is where Maddox and Pate married. Let me know if I can help. ellen
