    2. Jinks Lee
    3. Joel & Chris - a few notes and additions to your posting: John Allen Pate died before 1857 -- Matilda is listed as a widow on the 1860 Breckinridge Co, KY census - and in an indenture of land sold dated 3 Oct 1857 in Ohio Co, KY listing heirs of Samuel Crawford, it states "Heirs of Allen Pate, dec'd -- and list his 10 children" there is no Mary E Pate that I've found -- the 1900 Daviess Co, KY census shows Matilda has had 10 children and 5 still living. The marriage of John A Pate & Matilda H Morton is recorded in Spencer Co, IN - Bk 1, p 41 md 14 Nov 1832 by J B Greathouse, JP C C Pate is listed as Cullen C Pate in the deed of 3 Oct 1857 --and Christopher C Pate in the KY Death records - d. 2 Sep 1916, age 77. He is shown as Columbus Pate in all the census records I've found. Laura E Pate md Dr Columbus V Wedding -- the bio of Dr Columbus V Wedding, b. 8 Dec 1852, md 8 Ju 1870, Laura E Pate, d/o John A & Matilda (Morton) Pate of Breckinridge -- per KY Genealogical & Bio Vol I by Thos W Westerfield. Marriage is recorded in Breckinridge Co, KY, Bk 9, p 65 -- Columbus V Wedding, age 19 and Laura E Pate, age 19 -- md at residence of Matilda H Pate. Jeremiah Todd Bates md Laura E Pate, d/o William L Pate & Mildred Weatherholt. 3. Chris: I've run across several records that seem to support the assertion that John Allen Pate (also as Allen Pate) married Matilda Morton (also as Matilda Harriet Morton). Some suggest that they married in Breckinridge Co Kentucky others suggest that they married in Hancock Co Kentucky. My best GUESS (unproven) is that John Allen Pate married Matilda Harriet Morton in Spencer Co INDIANA on or about 14 Nov 1832. I THINK that John Allen Pate and Matilda Harriet Morton had 11 children. 1 JOHN ALLEN PATE d: 8 FEB 1886 -+ MATILDA MORTON --2 NANCY ELLA PATE --+ MR SKILLMAN --2 MARY R G PATE --2 TILLOTHA R PATE --2 EDWARD SAMUEL PATE --2 CULLEN COLUMBUS PATE --2 MARGARET L PATE 15 JUN 1840 - 7 MAY 1926 --+ 1st FELIX G WALKER 1 DEC 1836 - 18 NOV 1874 --+ 2nd SAMUEL TAUL --2 ACANTHUS ADDIS PATE --2 MINERVA JANE PATE --2 MARY E PATE --2 HETTY ANN PATE --2 LAURA E PATE *(?) --+ JEREMIAH TODD BATES I believe your g g/f to be EDWARD SAMUEL PATE md ANNA MARTHA HODGES in BRECKINRIDGE* CO KY 5 APR 1866 [SOURCE: LDS, 1880 CENSUS JEFFERSON CO KY] I do not have and index or survey of PATE and allied surname graves in Cave Hill (National) Cemetery near Louisville, Jefferson Co KY. I believe there is such an index in print, but I have not had access to it. Perhaps you could find it and post information from it. I do have one note from the military section of Cave Hill Cemetery Cave Hill National Cemetery. Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky Pate, Geo W, d. 01/28/1885, PVT K 65 IND INF, Orig Bur Louisville, Ky, Plot: 2906, * Private. Buried Grave 84, Sec 5, Cave Hill National Cemetery,Huntsville KY You asked about Civil War records. There are a multitude on reference books in print that I could suggest. I have extracted PATE names from most, if not all of the major works. I would surmise that you would be interested in any record of service for your g g/f Edward Samuel Pate. I have scanned all of my notes, Union (KY and IN) and Confederate (KY), and found no clear match. I did find a Sam Pate, private from KY, serving in Company I, 16th US Infantry USA. This would be a bit of stretch, but it is a possibility. These military reference materials are by no means 100% comprehensive and accurate. Often they do not include local militia or home guard records. Records from irregular, unorganized or partisan units are rare and difficult to verify. If you have family or alternate records of service, perhaps those records can be linked to others and verified. Joel

    2. Hi - I'm not LDS, and I am accessing the online database, which does not provide the source information you seek - sorry! BTW, for anyone who may be interested, several LDS databases, including the Internation Genealogical Index, the Ancestry File, and a transcription of the 1880 Federal Census of the U.S., are searchable at the following address: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search .asp I find these can be good sources of clues on where to look for your ancestor in a given timeframe, but I recommend always obtaining primary source records if at all possible. 2. That is interesting about your family. It would be strange if my husbands Woosley were related to my Pate's. My grandparents on my mothers side were first half cousins and that can be confusing at times. currently I am researching these surnames: PATE WESTBROOK WOOSLEY MALCOLM , LANDRETH with a few others thrown in. Kim Westbrook Woosley

    2. Samuel Meshach Woolsey married Eliza Catherine Cloud. Eliza's daughter was Rosa Woosley Howze. I am descended from Eliza's brother George Augustus Cloud on my mother's side. My mother (Nancie Alice Cloud) and my father (William Monroe Pate) were second cousins. I am from the Peterson Pate Family on my father's and mother's side. I love to call my sister cousin. Makes her mad. Ha Ha. Margaret Lindly

Aunt Jodie was daugther of Hunter and Velma Landreth Pate, my grandmother's sister, she was not doing well when I saw her in May at her son Buck Payne's funeral. I have 2 small boys ages 2 and 6 not to mention grown children and teens at home, also have a 2 yr old grandson. I am always busy but try to keep up, my aunt is going to talk to a relative in Blair when she can about the Pate family, she is in her 90's and mind is good from what I hear. Kimberly
