Lindy, I appreciate the report on your test results. We can use some encouraging news. As you know, FTDNA's comparison of your/our results is limited only to those who have also taken the test. In this case, four members of the Pate DNA Project have received their results, and results for four more members should be received in the next few weeks. Hopefully, all of us will soon be seeing some matches within our Pate families. I have been exchanging emails with Bennett Greenspan, president of FTDNA, about our results (or lack thereof). He is advising more patience as their global database grows for the Family Finder test, including the pending Pate results. We would like to have you as a member of the Pate DNA Project. It would only take minutes (or seconds), and there is no additional cost. The Family Finder test does provide a means for females (and non-Pate males) with a Pate bloodline to become full members of the Project, other than through their mtDNA. Since FTDNA is in the early stages of developing this test, they have not yet announced a means of displaying these test results on the Project's website. I think you can join the Project directly from your personal "myFTDNA" page. If you choose to join and encounter nay difficulties, please let me know. A. J. Family Tree DNA has just announced today a brief sale on upgrades on Y-DNA kits. I strongly recommend that all members of the Pate DNA Project upgrade their results to 37 markers, or at least to 25 markers. The 12-marker test only places you within a broad family line, which is not unimportant, but provides little further genealogical value to yourself or others. The advanced tests further define how closely you may be related to other members within your family group and may help establish specific family lines, which is very important. The testing for advanced markers will not require furnishing new DNA samples. This additional testing can be done on the same sample previously provided when first becoming a member of the Project. This sale will only last from July 8 through July 19. I encourage all persons affected to take advantage of these prices. Here are the Y-DNA upgrade prices: Upgrade Current Price SALE PRICE Y12-25 $ 49 $ 35 Y12-37 $ 99 $ 69 Y12-67 $189 $149 Y25-37 $ 49 $ 35 Y25-67 $148 $109 Y37-67 $ 99 $ 79 To order this special offer, a member can log in to their personal page, "myFTDNA", and click on the special offers link in the left hand navigation bar. Clovis, my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I lost my aunt who lived with me for ten years on Mother's Day, and can suggest you let the grief come and go, and move at your own pace. Fondly, Dot Barnum

Clovis, I am sorry to hear the sad news of Jimmy's death, but we know that he is now in a much better place where there is no more pain or suffering. My condolences to you and your family. For Judy Mount. Jackson Aaron Pate b ca 1840 d ca 1864 is NOT the Jackson Pate you are looking for. From the information you provided, it is my OPINION, your Jackson Pate PERHAPS is Jackson Pate, son of Booker Pate and Priscilla Thompson. He and his wife Mariah were in the 1850 Census of Tishomingo Co., MS Jackson Pate died after the 1850 census and before the 1860 census. His widow Mariah, was enumerated in the 1860 census of Tishomingo Co, MS Jackson Pate left a Will in which he named his wife, Mariah * * *MSWILLS* * * *State of Mississippi * *Tishomingo County* * * *In the name of God Amen. * *I Jackson Pate of the county of Tishomingo and State of Mississippi being sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God, calling into mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be burried in decent Christian burial order at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection, I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And, as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, devise, and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: * * * *Item the 1st I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mariah Pate all of the estate that belongs to me at this time, commencing on my real estate, that is to say one quarter section of land known in the place of the Chicksaw Cession by no range 111 East Township no 2 south east quarter of section no 4 and also the personal estate that belongs to me after paying all just debts and demands and also all notes and accounts that is in my hands of my own making. All wills and bequests void previous to this date, this 27 of August 1838. * *Jackson Pate * *Witnesses: * *Dial Mills * *T. I. Tollison * *James McAffee * This will was made in 1838. I have nothing on the probate of this will. It is OPINION that your Jackson Pate was enumerated in the 1840 Census of Itawamba Co, MS (page 151). There is some evidence that this Jackson Pate was previously married to a Mahala McCown and divorced her by means of a Bill of Divorce granted by the Alabama legislature about 1831-32 Perhaps you can find an ancestral link in the following chart from the P1 file of the late Jinks Pate Lee--: 1-Jackson Pate (about 1805-) +Mahala Mc Cown (about 1805-) +Mariah Unknown (about 1814-) . . . . 2-William Henderson Pate (about 1837-about 1865) . . . . +Rebecca Ann Washburn (about 1839-about 1878) . . . . . . . . 3-Mary J Pate (1859-) . . . . . . . . 3-Julia Pate (1863-1935) . . . . . . . . +John H Shurbet (estimated 1851-) . . . . . . . . 3-William Henderson "Bill" Pate Jr (19 June 1865-8 June 1956) . . . . . . . . +Idilia Elizabeth "Ila" Harris (10 October 1868-26 December 1948) . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-Herman Harris Pate (25 September 1886-2 February 1966) . . . . . . . . . . . . +Vola Esmond Hopkins (10 July 1895-3 October 1983) . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-Carrie Alice Pate (8 August 1889-2 January 1946) . . . . . . . . . . . . +Harry Eames (estimated 1887-) . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-Ollie Adele Pate (5 November 1891-June 1956) . . . . . . . . . . . . +Charles L Emerson (about 1889-) . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-Eunice Pate (5 January 1895-10 March 1895) . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-Eula Mae Pate (7 April 1896-14 September 1918) . . . . . . . . . . . . +Bert Smith (estimated 1894-) . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-Floy Pate (3 June 1899-7 October 1906) . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-Purnie Pearly "Pauline" Pate (12 August 1902-2 February 1998) . . . . . . . . . . . . +Jimmie Currie (estimated 1900-) . . . . . . . . . . . . +Joe Elfred (estimated 1900-) . . . . . . . . . . . . +Emanuel Osuna (estimated 1900-) . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-(M-Child 8) Pate (30 September 1905-22 April 1906) . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-Flora Caveta Pate (19 April 1907-17 April 2000) . . . . . . . . . . . . +Robert W Baumgartner (estimated 1905-) . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-James William Pate (8 May 1910-4 September 1979) . . . . . . . . . . . . +Margaret Bryant (estimated 1912-) . . . . . . . . . . . . +Millie (??)-Pate (estimated 1912-) . . . . 2-Mary Jane Pate (about 1839-) . . . . +Thomas Billings (1834-) . . . . 2-John B Pate (about 1844-) . . . . +Amanda Elizabeth "Betty" Echols (1844-) . . . . . . . . 3-Mary Francis Pate (1865-) . . . . . . . . 3-James L Pate (1867-) . . . . . . . . 3-Martha Pate (1870-) . . . . . . . . 3-Ann G Pate (1873-) . . . . . . . . 3-Theophins Pate (1875-) . . . . . . . . 3-Joseph Pate (1876-) . . . . . . . . 3-Virginia Pate (1878-) . . . . . . . . 3-Viola Pate (1879-) . . . . 2-James Marshall Pate (about 1845-) . . . . +Jane Turner (about 1847-) Joel l-- PATE DNA PROJECT http://www.familytreedna.com/public/pate-dna-project Sharing Our Past, Our Present and Our Future PATE LIST SERVE [email protected] A free E-Mail Forum for PATE Researchers

I didn't know any of this about this unit. If this Jackson Pate is indeed Jackson Aaron Pate he isn't my Jackson Pate because mine was married to Mariah Pate (Maiden name unknown). She is listed in the 1860 and 1870 censuses I believe as being without him in Tippah and Tishomingo, Mississippi. So he died somewhere. He wasn't in the 1860 census as I said and that was before the war started. Perhaps he just died and is buried there in Mississippi and it had nothing to do with the war. I wish I knew. -----Original Message----- From: Alverne <[email protected]> To: pate <[email protected]> Sent: Sun, Jul 4, 2010 9:28 pm Subject: Re: [PATE] Jackson A Pate - Confederate Soldier - Company K, 13th Alabama Infantry Regiment ONFEDERATE ALABAMA TROOPS 13th Regiment, Alabama Infantry 13th Infantry Regiment completed its organization in July, 1861, at Montgomery, Alabama. Men of this unit were from the counties of Coosa, Wilcox, Macon, Butler, Talladega, Montgomery, Randolph, Elmore, and Tallapoosa. Ordered to Virginia, it served under General Rains at Yorktown, and in April, 1862, contained 474 effectives. Later the 13th was assigned to General Colquitt's, Archer's, Sanders', and W.H. Forney's Brigade, Army of the Northern Virginia. It participated in many conflicts from [1]Williamsburg to [2]Cold Harbor, then fought in the long [3]Petersburg siege south of the James River and the campaign that ended at [4]Appomattox. This regiment reported 52 casualties at [5]Seven Pines, 101 during the Seven Days' Battles, and 140 at [6]Chancellorsville. Of the 308 engaged at [7]Gettysburg, over half were disabled. It surrendered with 6 officers and 85 men on April 9, 1865. The field officers were Colonels James Aiken and B.D. Fry; Lieutenant Colonels William H. Betts, R.H. Dawson, S.B. Marks, and Julius C.B. Mitchell; and Major John T. Smith. It has been in storage since then. It is entitled 13TH ALABAMA VOLUNTEERS COMPANY K E.B. Smith Captain, resigned Feb. 1863 J.M.K. Cluinn, 1st L.T., wounded June 27 1862 - promoted Captain March 1863. It goes on to tell where the men were killed or discharged. It says "Jackson Pate, died at Richmond". Someone who understands how this works needs to look up this Regiment and see if there is more to this. I can't find anything about them. There are three pages of names but I am interested in Jackson Pate. At the very end it says "Company K, 13th Alabama Volunteers" Revised and Corrected January 1st, 1894 by J.M.K. This family was enumerated: * [John Pate md Barbara Kite 23 Jun 1836 Fayette Co] * [See Census 1850 Fayette Co GA ** * [See Census 1860 Randolph Co AL]* * [See Census 1870 Walker Co AL]* * [See Census 1880 Lafayette Co TN] * ** Jackson Pate was named in the 1850 Fayette Co GA Census as Jackson Pate age 10 and in the 1860 Randolph Co AL as J A Pate age 20. I would speculate (guess) that he was given the middle name - Aaron - from his uncle Aaron Pate. The 13th AL Infantry was principally recruited from Randolph and Chambers Counties in AL. I do not have immediate access to a regimental history for this unit, but I think they were attached to the ANVA and deployed in North Virginia. There is a service card in the microfilm copy of the Consolidated Confederate Service Card Index in the state Library and Archives in Tallahassee, FL for:- *"JACKSON A. PATE* *COMPANY K, 13TH ALABAMA INFANTRY REGIMENT. Died at Richmond"* He probably died of disease in a Confederate hospital in or near Richmond. Service cards were generally noted "killed in action" or "wounded in battle, died" I have found no evidence that he left a Will or that he was married. Thank you Joel for this information you sent. How do I tell if this Jackson Pate is my Jackson Pate? I actually dont know his middle initial or even that he had gone into the service. He just disappeared from site and never came back. I found one Jackson Pate in a Union Prison, also. Is there somewhere that has information on each member of this Jackson Pate's company? Thomas Billings is the son in law of Jackson Pate and there is a website for his Company. Any help is appreciated. Judy
Clovis, thanks for the encouragement. Where in any state do they keep the Archives>? I live in Tx and have so many here I can't find. I envy you and your sister getting to go look for yours. That is such fun. There is a microfilm at the Virginia Archives that has a partial listing for the Confederate Soldiers that died in Richmond. Joel: I no longer have access to anything but from what I have found in the past, if they died at Richmond, it was normally in one of the Confederate hospitals there. One of my ancestors who died at Richmond was buried at Yorktown in the nationally cemetery. It was a fluke I found his grave as I was looking for someone from the Rev. War when I ran across his name. Go figure...genealogy, full of surprises. Jerry
