I have cancelled the Pate Genealogy Facebook Account. This was a mistake -- It fills up with non-genealogy information and is not very user friendly. Anyone else have any ideas? Maybe the simple person to person contact for transferring or sharing files is the best method.
Someone should try to find out what they are doing with her research. Perhaps they will donate them to a Library so every one can use them. So many times the children just trash them, then in later years they wish they had preserved then. In a message dated 7/22/2010 1:53:27 P.M. John, You can upload pictures to a Facebook "friend" page if it's your page. If someone uploads pictures on their own page (example: I upload pics of my Pate ancestors), I can tag my friend, Pate Genealogy, and they will show up with everyone that is friends with Pate genealogy (provided the privacy settings are set correctly). OR, someone can send you the pictures and you can add them yourself. You can create notes on Pate genealogy to include information in a text format. For a "like" page, it works a little different. -- Melanie Dennis [email protected] On Thu, 22 Jul 2010 14:42 -0400, "John Robinson" <[email protected]> wrote: > This idea, using Facebook to share pictures and digital info, might not > work very well. This idea, using Facebook to share pictures and digital info, might not work very well. I'm not finding it easy to use. Anyone have expertise with this?
John, The best way to be fairly sure is to check the date of the application. In the past 20 years there has been a tremendous effort to clear and verify the applications. It is true that for most societies, the data near the founding of the society, is somewaht hopeful and based on family lore. There are certain lines in the DAR that are no longer open nor will applicants be admitted on these lines. However, you can find data that may lead to information about your particular line. Like every other genealogical source, you must verify the information with a verified source. The computer is a great tool but it allows far too much false information to be passed on. The Daughters were not the only hopeful ones. Meredith ---- John Robinson <[email protected]> wrote: > I have recently downloaded two Revolutionary War Pensions from Ancestry. For those who might be a member of the DAR or whose wife is a member, if you go into the member site of the DAR (not the regular site - www.DAR.org ) - this will require a valid DAR membership number but for $10.00 you can order a record copy of the DAR paper that might be of interest which will include all the various verification check marks of the genealogist who reviewed the application (- as a note do not order one that is noted a "short form" -) along with information on the documents that were submitted to verify the genealogy (you will not receive copies of these documents). Once your credit card has been verified you will receive in seconds a .pdf copy of the record copy you ordered. Note, this will require legal size paper to be printed. The file can then be saved in an appropriate folder on your computer. This service has only been available within the past two weeks or so. I received a marriage register from the SIU-IRAD which had this additional information on what is already available online in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index: Henry S. Pate, age 27, md. Mrs. Sarah Stratton, age 26 on 30 June 1890 in Jefferson Co., IL; marriage performed by E. V. Satterfield, P. M. (ISMI has 4 Jul 1890 as marriage date, but it isn't that in the register.) James Pate, age 47, md. Mrs. Elizabeth Marks, age 25, on 10 Oct 1890 in Jefferson Co. IL. Marriage performed by E. V. Satterfield, P .M. I found whom I believe are the same James and Elizabeth Marks Pate on the 1900 Dodds, Jeffeson Co., IL Census (Dwelling #68/Family #69). James' birth info was given as Sep 1844 IL; parents both born TN. Elizabeth was b. Oct 1869; md. 10 yrs., mother of 1 child (13 yr. old Harry is the only child in this household, possibly Elizabeth's child from prior marriage). I would love to know if any of these Pates fit in your line. Thanks, April
