    3. My thoughts and prayers to Joel, Linda & their family members.  You know what they say ..................Better days are comin' !!! Tarrie Pate Meehan p.s.- Hope you are also doing well, also, Clovis !!! --- On Wed, 7/28/10, Clovis <[email protected]> wrote: From: Clovis <[email protected]> Subject: [PATE] Joel Pate To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, July 28, 2010, 2:12 AM I am sure many of you have noticed that Joel Pate has not been on the list serve for awhile. Joel had a stroke and had to have surgery to stop the bleeding in his brain. He is still in Neurology ICU but is making such good progress that he will be going to a private room very soon. I talked to Linda several times and asked if I could post something about Joel on the List serve and she was delighted. She has been getting so many phone calls she can't handle all of them. Tonight Linda was on cloud nine. Joel's speach is coming back and seems to be doing great. Please remember him and Linda in your prayers. Linda will keep me updated and I will pass the word on to all of you through this venue. -- Clovis ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    2. Coni, I found so much information on your line it would be impossible for me to send it to the Pate List Serve. For starters do you have all the children and who they married for Bird Pate? He is an ancestor of Jimmie Jean Pate Bowman, who lived in the 1980's at 9415 Primrose, Shereveport, LA 71118. She got the names of his children from the Probate record of Bird Pate. Then she and Charlotte Autrey worked together on a case study for this family in Vol. III No.2 pp 54-58 (4pages) Then in Vol. III No2 pp69-73 (5pages) I published their corrections and documentation. Most of you know that I am not a great computer operator and have not learned how to cut, paste and send. I can scan and sent her FGS and send it to the Listserve I think. I am going to try. If this works I can send the other pages the same way. I do have all issues of the Pate Pioneers on CD if you are interested. Helen Pate Ross, Jinks Pate Lee, and Dr. Jim Peacock were all contributors to the Pate Pioneers. Now let me see if I can make this work. 3. You are so right, Clovis... My sincere apologies to Joe Neal and to the group. I may not have been tactful when pointing out Joe's assumption that what we are doing will cost anyone any money! IT WILL NOT. Also, I apologize if no one else understood this from the git-go, too. I understood it when John posted about it, so I apologize to the group if no one else understood it - and I assumed they should have since I did. Oh - and I also apologize for whatever else there is to apologize for! :) We are all really "family" here - linked by some ancestor(s) somewhere - and families have squabbles within them sometimes. I never mean to offend anyone on purpose, as I am sure no one ever really means to offend me on purpose! Let's *please* get back on topic with this now. . . John asked for suggestions for a photo-sharing place where we could share our photos and documents that cannot be shared as attachments via this mailing list. John is taking these suggestions and uploading pics and docs to the suggested places and asking me to check and download and report what I find. We are JUST TESTING at present. NOTHING is going to cost anyone any money unless they OPT IN for an upgrade to a premium acct.! We are looking for FREE VENUES only - and that is all we are testing. If any of you have not read the FAQ for the places we are testing and you ASSUME it is going to cost you money - then that is your fault for not reading the FAQ and you should not be scaring the group into thinking it will cost them money when it will not - not unless someone decides to opt into the premium subscription and this would be their personal choice, not for the whole group! So if you have any suggestions for any other FREE photo-sharing places, please feel free to suggest them and we will test them! Thanks to all who are in favor of this endeavor, too. :) Much appreciated! 3. We are trying to include EVERYONE - the whole list so it should not go private! We are welcoming everyone's suggestions what free venue they might know about that we can try - that is what John asked for - and what we are offering. If you cannot offer a suggestion for a free place to upload photos to, nor offer your comments when John asks you to check out his uploads, then yes, thank you for no input at this point. No hard feelings - just working with John trying to find a place suitable for those of us who WANT to share so we can do so and have our accounts linked together for the good of all researchers - that is all we are doing right now - TESTING. So far, Picasa links me to John's albums when I joined - it is FREE - and they do not alter the names of the photos and you can download the 2+MB original scans. We are looking for any other place that might offer this same thing for free. 1. [PATE] Pate-Whittenberg Connection-Blount Co TN
    2. April Johnson
    3. Hi Ellen (and others interested in the Matthew Pate-Jinks' M44 line), This won't help with finding your William B. Pate, but I did run into a Pate-Whittenberg connection in Blount County, Tennessee. (Remember that Melinda Pate assigned Daniel Whittenberg as the executor of her husband Joseph Pate's estate on 2 Nov 1852?) Using Google Books, I found a Henry Whittenberg, Sr., who immigrated from Wittenberg, Germany to Pennsylvanian and, eventually, to Blount Co TN soon after the Revolutionary War. He married Mary Pate (who is allegedly of German ancestry in this account??). The account says "He at length removed to Illinois, lived with his children, and died in this State a few years later, having reared a large family of children all of whom except William settled in Washington County (IL)." Among Henry and Mary's 5sons & 4 daughters, there were a Margaret and a Daniel Whittenberg. You can read this info (and more!) here: http://books.google.com/books?ei=64IuTPf1DoP6lwflq9ziCg <http://books.google.com/books?ei=64IuTPf1DoP6lwflq9ziCg&ct=result&dq=Washin gton%20County%20Illinois%20Pate&q=Pate&id=GxMVAAAAYAAJ&output=text&pg=PA289> &ct=result&dq=Washington%20County%20Illinois%20Pate&q=Pate&id=GxMVAAAAYAAJ&o utput=text&pg=PA289 At least that's the link that worked for me. If the link will not work, the title of the book is "The Biographical Review Johnson, Massac, Pope, Hardin Counties, Illinois-Containing Biographical Sketches of Prominent and Representative Citzens..", Biographical Publishing Co., Chicago, 1893. I know that there is a Margaret Whittenberg listed in Matthew Pate's estate papers: "10 Feb 1849 Matthew Pate promised to pay Margaret Whittenberg $32.00 for services received." I've tried to make the Melinda Whittenberg in this article "fit" as the wife of your Joseph, but cannot do it. This Melinda apparently married an Eliliu VAUGHN. Don't want to send you off on a wild goose chase here! Maybe someone with more familiarity with this M44 line or with knowledge the Pate-Whittenberg connection in Blount County, TN, could offer comments here? Ellen, I do have a few questions for you: Where is Josephine Johanna Pate buried? And, did William B. serve in the Civil War-or, would he have been of the right age to have served in the Civil War? Thanks, April

    2. John, How much does this cost. I think I read that there is a charge. Some of our older members that have been doing research for ages, are on fixed incomes. That means watching our pennies very close. I am one of those people. If there is a cost please let us know how much. We may be more interested if we know how much it is. Thank you Clovis -----Original Message----- From: John Robinson <[email protected]> To: pate <[email protected]> Sent: Tue, Jul 27, 2010 8:33 am Subject: [PATE] DropShots and Sharing The primary reason I was interested in a photo upload site, was that most email providers limit the size of attachments. Apparently, DropShots and other similar sites do not. It's really nice to download a good quality photo. Prior to this, to share photos, etc., I've gotten the other persons mailing address, copied the images to cd's, and used the US Mail to share. This, if it works, will be FREE, no postage stamps required. When I first started this quest, I anticipated a site we all could use, however, this was not a good idea. For anyone that wishes to use this method for sharing files, I recommend creating your own site. Why DropShots: This site and Picasa were recommended. When I tried to open a Picasa page, I couldn't figure out how to do it. Since I like simple, I had already created the DropShots site, I decided to stay with DropShots. If you wonder why I selected "Pate1873" as the site name, this was simply a senior moment. I meant to use "Pate1773", only missed by a hundred years. What I don't like about DropShots: You cannot see the file name, which is how I organize my images. To avoid this problem, I'll upload fewer files and / or upload files that are most commonly requested, then upload files that are specifically requested. I can also anticipate, if someone wants an image that is in my collection, uploading it for that individual. Person Photos: My people photos start, as a general rule, with my Great Grand's, Dads, Moms, Aunts, and Uncles. It is nice to add a face to a name. I've also, given and received photos of ancestors that I did not have or the other person did not have. Recently, this weekend, I shared photos with a cousin, maybe 3rd, not sure about these relationships, and they are priceless. Since this was done using email, we swapped low quality digital images. With DropShots we can upload high quality pictures and subsequently download them on the other end. Melanie, I'll upload those family group shots today. Have you gone to the site? I've added first names to the folders to help id the contents. http://www.dropshots.com/Pate1873# Comments appreciated. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    2. Nothing is every positive, however my mother-in-law writes in her memory book about him coming to visit them and teaching them how to read music. She was born in 1906, Josephine (sister to Wm B. born in 1856, Cobden, Union County Illinois)) died in 1914 in Carter Co, OK. and is buried in Springer Cemetery. William was in the 1900 census in Indian Territory (Chickasaw Nation) census and he had a different wife at that time and still listed on the census as a Miner. Mining was done in Oklahoma but more in the Eastern part of the state and not in the south central which is where they were living and had lived for a long time. (My mother-in-law was born as were her brothers and sisters in Carter Co, OK. Some before statehood and some after. 2. Laynie, Apparently you do not comprehend the logic of reasons for not publishing may data the way you would like. Suggest you contact me on my direct e-mail at: [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) in lieu airing your complaint with the entire Pate network. That's fine - each to their own, but it seems rather selfish [to me] for any of us to keep old photos and research a secret from anyone else searching who may not know HOW to contact and ask you or any of us for information or photos! They just might be the party that has something to offer us that we might be looking for! If I may ask - less commercially than WHAT exactly? Less commercially than this site with a photo and Pait/Pate family history that is publicly/commercially accessible and COSTS A FEE? http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~patepaitfamily/pait.html Just wondering... A good scanner, if not in memory, can accomplish a specific request for those in my family line. Plus a specific request is handled more personally and less commercially. Joe Neal In a message dated 7/26/2010 2:59:00 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Not free? Good grief! It's FREE up to 500 photos - how many photos do you need to share for heaven sake??? This list allows NO attachments! Surely you would not expect someone to mail all their photos to you and everyone else on this list in private email when there is something they want to share with everyone! So your 'thanks but no thanks' was you just saying you don't care to use Dropshots or see anyone else's photo shares on there, either - which is so very sad. There are a LOT of microfilms and captures of old documents that some of us have which can be shared on there - which cannot be shared on this list - yet might be of HELP to some on this list! Nobody is trying to replace this list - NO WAY!! We are just trying to FIND A PLACE to share pictures since this list doesn't allow HTML or any attachments! Pick your own place to share - I just SUGGESTED DropShopts to John - there are many other places like that. Picasa is free and run by Google - use that if you don;t like DropShots. Just Google for FREE PHOTO SHARING and there are all kinds of places to be sharing from - each person can pick their own place to share what they want and post the link to the list! Here's the link for Picasa - they have 1 gigabyte of free storage: http://picasa.google.com/features.html#utm_medium=embed&utm_source=pwalogin Gotta wonder why some people are so close-minded about a contributor on this list wanting to share their photos and captured info that cannot be shared as an attachment thru this list. Very strange that some are so AGAINST it. I look forward to seeing photos of this kind that could actually be the documentation someone else might be looking for!
