You are more than welcome. There is a lot of people praying for out Joel. Linda is of course at his side and I know he is thankful for that. I will pass your good wishes on. Thank you Janis. The Convocation in Virginia was wonderful. Getting to meet people I had corresponded with for years was a dream come true. That's where my sister and I met Joel and Linda. We fell in love with them. I was horrified when I learned what had happened. But now I believe that Joel will be back pounding the keys before the Doctors can turn around twice. We have all been helped by Joel in more ways that one. We have been blessed to have him. I'll pass on your good wishes to Linda when I hear from her. I, too, have been very concerned about these disagreements. We all have them, but they need to be 'disagreed' in private emails. Today even, I have seen names of people( giving their regards to Joel) I didn't know were on this list (lurkers as some referred to themselves as I am most of the time). I enjoy the emails, no matter what branch, and I enjoy the tidbits of history or sentiments of even people I don't know. But I do NOT enjoy these arguments. Disagreeing because information doesn't jive is one thing,( and discussing them to find correct answers) but arguing against someone's feelings and privacy is disgusting when it is continued over & over for all to be involved. I am embarrassed as a part of this Pate list for people who are too sensitive and wants to air it in public, what should be done, if done at all, in private. The end of this 'grandma's life lesson. Now I choose to forget the past and start anew! This group of Pates help bring joy into my life, and takes me places. Since 1991, I have driven by car, all over the USA, to NC ocean shores to Oregon shores and one trip into Mexico. I live in South Georgia. I just had my 63 birthday. I've not made it to New York but I've gotten close and plan to fly to Canada for my sons wedding ( I'm planning or hoping)and I'm going to try to see New York as I fly over!. Some of this was for research, most of it pleasure done before I started all my branches of reseaching. My mom and I, and my youngest son in 1992 or '93), drove up to Missouri and followed the Oregon trail ( we were on our own, not on a tour). This was when my mom told me that I was related to one of the Lewis/& Clark explorers. Now when I learn where YOU Pates are located, I can feel it if I've been to their area ! I can't drive on adventures any more, not much farther than over the county line,& some days my aches & pains want let me out of the house, so on this Pate Listserve, I'm still traveling !!!!!!!!! Lets keep it enjoyable so all will want to take the ride! Clovis and Coni, It appears that this line through Bird Pate and Rebecca Hankins is hubby Bill's line also. We have been very late getting into the Pate genealogy and almost everything I have is "OP" from the listserve and readily available there. We do have some extra information on Bird and Susan Hankins Pate line that has not been posted but would not be of use to Coni right now so will postpone posting until I have more time. Clovis, you and I don't live very far away from each other. If you have problems copy and pasting, perhaps I can help you with that. However, I won't be available until I am certain my daughter, who is at Mayo Clinic right now, gets some answers to her mysterious malady - hopefully today. If things go to pot, major changes may have to be made in our household and I would not be available to help. If all goes well, in a couple of weeks, I would be free to help you copy and paste and send whatever you have left to reproduce either here or at your home. Sorry I will not be available sooner but if you need help after August 10th, perhaps we can work a schedule out. For starters do you have all the children and who they married for Bird Pate? He is an ancestor of Jimmie Jean Pate Bowman, who lived in the 1980's at 9415 Primrose, Shereveport, LA 71118. She got the names of his children from the Probate record of Bird Pate. Then she and Charlotte Autrey worked together on a case study for this family in Vol. III No.2 pp 54-58 (4pages) Then in Vol. III No2 pp69-73 (5pages) I published their corrections and documentation. Most of you know that I am not a great computer operator and have not learned how to cut, paste and send. I can scan and sent her FGS and send it to the Listserve I think. I am going to try. If this works I can send the other pages the same way. I do have all issues of the Pate Pioneers on CD if you are interested. Helen Pate Ross, Jinks Pate Lee, and Dr. Jim Peacock were all contributors to the Pate Pioneers. Now let me see if I can make this work. Since William was a well liked name in the Pate family there is many to be looked at. I'll be happy to check all the issues of "The Pate Pioneer" for you, if you can give me a bit more info. Do you think he might have gone to Arkansas? My Wm. B. Pate is buried in Batesville, AR. I do have a photos of his stone. Do you know who he married or anything like that? I'll look in my stuff later to see who his father was. They all died before I was a thought, but I have heard lots of tales I could share. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Monday, July 26, 2010 6:22 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [PATE] Facebook Cancellation The irony of this search for me is the fact that William B. I know where she is buried and I have known and spoken to some of her family but they do not seem to know where this Wm. B. Pate died and is buried. Odd situation since I know the father of these two was Joseph Pate and the mother was Melinda? Birthdays, etc. I have but physcial location for him (Wm B.) is a lost cause. thanks for answering my msg. ellen > No one is trying to move this list, Ellen. Yes, I'm sure everyone has noticed no comments from Joel. Vacation was on my mind and thought maybe I had missed his announcement. I'm so very sorry to hear it is a stroke and surgery. He/and family will be in my prayers as well as I will put him on Church prayer lists in my area. While some of us are only looking for our direct line of ancestors, Joel ( as well as few others) are "Pate" ( all Pates) researchers. There are not many who spend the time required to research them all ! I think most of us have come to depend upon Joel's input. Saying that, I realize how Joel's wife/family must be feeling at this time. I pray for them to receive strength from God to deal with Joel's health. Sorry if I didn't word this too well. Seems like my thoughts and fingers Can't always work together. Joel had a stroke and had to have surgery to stop the bleeding in his brain. He is still in Neurology ICU but is making such good progress that he will be going to a private room very soon. I talked to Linda several times and asked if I could post something about Joel on the List serve and she was delighted. She has been getting so many phone calls she can't handle all of them. Tonight Linda was on cloud nine. Joel's speach is coming back and seems to be doing great. Please remember him and Linda in your prayers. Linda will keep me updated and I will pass the word on to all of you through this venue. -- Clovis ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message No virus found in this incoming message. Joel, Please continue to improve. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely, Janice M. Marler Daughter of Lucille Pate
A. J. I agree with you whole heartedly. While I am so glad Joel is making good progress I am very sad about some the things that have been happening on the Listserve. I just got a private email from Elsie Sikes and she said I could share this on the List. She said she could not stand all the bickering and was unsubscribing to the Pate List serve. I hope no one else feels this way. We could lose a lot of knowledgeable Pate researchers if this continues. So I am asking again that we should think before we post on the the List. Let's concentrate on helping each other all we can while Joel is out of commission. Please and Thank you. Just be conscientious in making clear whether your information is documented or not. You have likely noted how thorough Joel is on making these distinctions. Please include the sources of your information where you can. Most of the burden may fall to Clovis Herring. I will attempt to help where/when I can, but I am not even in the same league as Joel and Clovis. I acquired an interest in genealogy very late in the game, and most of my efforts have been directed to my own family line, and recently expanded to the whole Thoroughgood Pate family line which I belong to. I can answer most questions relating to the Pate DNA Project and genetic (DNA) genealogy. I will help as much as I can with questions on the Thoroughgood family line. Before posting inquiries on the Listserve, I suggest that you do the following: -- Search the archives of this Listserve to see if your question has already been answered -- Search the home page of the late Jinks Pate-Lee at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~patefamily/index.htm -- For the Thoroughgood Pate line, search "The Descendants of Thoroughgood Pate [d. 1713]" maintained by Joe Scarborough at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=thoroughgoodpate&id=I2 -- Search the "Pate Pioneers", available on CDs (as I just posted) A.
