    1. [PATE] PATE in Carter County, Oklahoma
    2. Sharon Fitzpatrick
    3. It's interesting that my husband's Pates were in Carter County also about this time. They were in Healdton, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory in 1900. I don't believe that there is a connection, however. My husband's came from Georgia to Texas to Indian Territory. I do think that I noticed a Pate I couldn't identify in an Ardmore directory - probably 1939 or 1946 directory. I asked my mother-in-law about him but she couldn't remember any other Pate family in town. Now I wonder if he was one of yours. 3. A. J., The statement I made was not very well worded. I meant that I did not know of any other descendants of Benagy Pate who were subscribers to the Pate List - not Willoughby Pate. And I was wrong. Elsie Sikes, who will be leaving the list, is a Benagy Pate descendant through the son, William Nelson Pate (1843? - 1905), as I am. Benagy's other son. Harris Pate, did not marry nor have children as stated in an affidavit on file in the National Archives and signed by Benagy Pate (according to research by MaeAllen Form and reported in her manuscript). Harris died in a Virginia hospital during the Civil War. In the past year I have had e-mail exchanges with William (Bubba) Davis who is a descendant of William Nelson's younger sister, Sienna Pate. Bubba now lives in Tomball, Texas, close to the Pate-Sanders Cemetery where William Nelson Pate is buried. He took charge of the final placement of the Confederate marker for William Nelson Pate's grave. He should be a member of the Pate List. I do have a fairly early copy of Jim Peacock's work on the Pee Dee River Pates. The original serious researcher for the William Nelson Pate family introduced me to him several years ago. Joan Pate took the tidbits of family information that I received from my father and worked hard to find Elizabeth Parker and Ben Pate. Joan literally disappeared from all contact when she divorced her Pate husband. I'll step out of line and mention that I do wish all partcipants in the Pate List would be more professional and businesslike. 2. John Robinson
    3. I received an inquiry about posting other folks pictures. For those that don't wish to post photographs on the internet, for whatever reason, I would be happy to post them on my site if you wish to share with the group. Originally, I have envisioned a site where we could all post photos, or other digital images, directly. This doesn't seem to be an option. I suggest those photos of folks taken over a hundred years ago, our Great Greats, etc., that would have descendants out there that might not have copies of your photos. You can either email, or US mail, the digital images. Anyone that wants to do so, please contact me directly at my above posted email address. I also want to thank everyone for their support, suggestions, and help. I'm learning.

I haven't read many of the Facebook posts but wanted to relay that I am on some MyFamily.Com sites for surname groups and they work really well for posting pictures and pedigree charts. Lisa

    3. Someone is leaving because of all the bickering? Are you serious, Clovis? People in this group need to learn how to use their DEL key if they don't like something that is posted. Life is not all roses without some thorns occasionally. Peace and relaxation are in order now - right? Smile... I am still happy to have Pate blood in me, whether it creates bickering sometimes or not! J. I agree with you whole heartedly. While I am so glad Joel is making good progress I am very sad about some the things that have been happening on the Listserve. I just got a private email from Elsie Sikes and she said I could share this on the List. She said she could not stand all the bickering and was unsubscribing to the Pate List serve. I hope no one else feels this way. We could lose a lot of knowledgeable Pate researchers if this continues. So I am asking again that we should think before we post on the the List. Let's concentrate on helping each other all we can while Joel is out of commission. Please and Thank you. Just be conscientious in making clear whether your information is documented or not. You have likely noted how thorough Joel is on making these distinctions. Please include the sources of your information where you can. Most of the burden may fall to Clovis Herring. I will attempt to help where/when I can, but I am not even in the same league as Joel and Clovis. I acquired an interest in genealogy very late in the game, and most of my efforts have been directed to my own family line, and recently expanded to the whole Thoroughgood Pate family line which I belong to. I can answer most questions relating to the Pate DNA Project and genetic (DNA) genealogy. I will help as much as I can with questions on the Thoroughgood family line. Before posting inquiries on the Listserve, I suggest that you do the following: -- Search the archives of this Listserve to see if your question has already been answered -- Search the home page of the late Jinks Pate-Lee at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~patefamily/index.htm -- For the Thoroughgood Pate line, search "The Descendants of Thoroughgood Pate [d. 1713]" maintained by Joe Scarborough at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=thoroughgoodpate&id=I2 -- Search the "Pate Pioneers", available on CDs (as I just posted) A.
