    3. Thought I would post this marriage, as it does not appear to be indexed in the Illinois State Archives'" Illinois Statewide Marriage Index". >From the 7 Aug 1850 edition of the Illinois Republican Newspaper on page 3, column 1: "MARRIED. On the 5th of August by Wm. H. Snyder, Esq., Mr. WM. PATE to Mrs. MARY TIRE, all of St. Clair county, Illinois." This MAY be the same couple indexed in the 1850 Mascoutah, St. Clair Co., IL, Census that I posted about here: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/pate/2010-06/1275409751 April

    3. Hi Tami, Is this James Pate represented in the Pate DNA Project? I see that #143833 has James Pate b. c. 1818 in Kentucky as his most distant determined ancestor (currently #36 in list of Y-dna Results). Searching old posts on Pate-L, I found one relating to your James Pate that was of interest to me; the author of it questioned a possible relationship between your James Pate's line and the Pate line in Washington County, Illinois in the 1850s. Do you (or does anyone else on the list) know if that connection was ever disproved? It seems that it may have been from these posts: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/pate/2004-10/1097240749 http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/pate/2004-10/1097181996 Unfortunately, the webpage mentioned in Chandra Dawson Martin's posts (listing Edward M. Pate) no longer exists--or, at least I cannot access it. If your James Pate is the James Pate represented in the Pate DNA Project by #143833, it looks like this is a distinct Pate line. Some of the Washington Co., IL, Pate descendants have tested out in the Edward Pate group. Best regards, April ---- [email protected] wrote: > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. 3. Russell P Baker. It's a pretty funny story actually. I had been told that this man named Baker who knew a lot about families in our area would be at the local library next month, so I googled him. He had recently retired from the Arkansas Historical Commission as an Archivist and written a some books. Then I noticed he was coordinator for this "Standridge Reunion" I had never heard of before. Turns out we both descend from Temperance Strandridge! LOL I get to meet him in a couple of weeks. The nicest things have just fallen into place lately. Think I'll enjoy it while it lasts... Lynn...you are in Fayetteville? Are you a James & Rosanna descendant? Continuing on page 46: In Bedford Co., Tennessee Jan 4, 1821 he stated his wife is living with him, age 65. Her name is Barbara Norsworthy. He has also an orphan girl living with him, named Lucy Pate age 17 but who is no relation by blood or marriage. No others. He had 106 acres of land. " Happy researching! This is perhaps more than you wanted to know about the matter. However, on 2 August 2010 I was stricken with convulsions resulting from chronic subdural hematoma (blood clots on the brain surface), which in turn resulted from blood thinner toxicity. An excellent surgical team was able to remove the clots and get me out of danger and on the road to recovery. 1. [PATE] Some Hamilton Pates of Southern Illinois, 1857 & 1858
    2. April Johnson
    3. I have a copy of a deed record for Hamilton Pate in Jefferson County, Illinois on 2 Oct 1858 (Book J, p. 256). He sold 240 acres of land to James J. Fitzgerald. There is also an entry at the BLM-GLO website <http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/> for a Hamilton Pate "of Franklin County, Illinois" who purchases land in Hamilton County, Illinois on 1 Jun 1857. I cannot find a Hamilton Pate in the 1850 or 1860 Federal Censuses (in Illinois, anyway). The only Hamilton Pate I'm finding in Illinois Censuses is the one in the Clay County, Illinois Census for 1865-I think this one is the father of Robert Conaway Pate (and several other children between two wives)? Any ideas as to who these 1857/1858 Hamilton Pates in Southern Illinois may be? Thanks for any leads! April

    1. Re: [PATE] Articles mentions a John Pates killed & scalped
    2. Hi Joel, At the time I copied this article (a chapter) from the internet, it was to study one of my surname's woes in those terribly trying times describing our ancestors' westward movement. Rereading it last night, I found the Pate notation, copied it out with the credits to share. Stay well, enjoy your trip. This John Pate apparently had a son who in turn had a son named Rufus M Pate. Rufus M Pate is the known ancestor of a participant in the Pate DNA Project. Every settler passing along the road, every planter at work in his cotton-field, every ferryman pushing his boat with heavy oar through the sluggish current of the river, was liable to fall a victim to some shaft of destruction from and unseen hand. If we take the annals of the time for a single fortnight, and itemize the outrages committed by Indians, it would read something like this: > January 22, 1793. John Pates killed and scalped by Indians on Crooked Creel. (Creek?) > January 24th. The Cherokees stole three of William Davidson's horses. > January 27th. A party of Indians assaulted the house of Mr. Nelson, near Knoxville. Two of his sons, James and Thomas, were killed. > February 1st. Fourteen horses stolen from Flat Creek. > February 3d. Two young men named Clements killed. > February 5th. William Massey and Adam Green ambuscaded and killed at the gap of Powell's Mountain. > February 7th. A party of Indians burned the house of Gallaher. > February 9th. Great alarm on the frontier. Two hundred white men, women, and children crowded together in great discomfort at Craig's Stockade. > And so we might go on with the red record, week after week, and month after month." > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > -- PATE DNA PROJECT http://www.familytreedna.com/public/pate-dna-project Sharing Our Past, Our Present and Our Future PATE LIST SERVE [email protected] A free E-Mail Forum for PATE Researchers ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
