    3. Chris, It's the nature of mailing lists to get a lot of messages that don't concern you. However, I do agree that sometimes I appear to get only answers without getting the questions. Could it be that some people are sending messages privately and the responses are coming to the list? I've asked before that everyone be careful about putting a meaningful subject on their messages rather than just leaving the original subject, no matter how inappropriate. If we all adhere to that suggestion, it's very easy to delete those messages that don't concern you. I have learned very little from this list, but it's not the fault of the members. It's simply that no one else is researching the people I'm looking for. I stay, however, because the next new subscriber may be my long-lost cousin with the family bible that answers all my questions. As others have pointed out, there are a couple of reasons why you may not have received a response. First, and simplest, no one has the answer. A mailing list is simply a vehicle for exchanging information, not a service bureau where you can order up the answers you need. If I had had anything to offer you, I would certainly have responded, and I'm sure I speak for everyone on the list. Second, perhaps you are providing incomplete information. Have you told us everything you know about the ancestors you are seeking? It could be that you are not being specific enough (e. g., time period, location, etc.). If you have not learned anything from the list, of course you should unsubscribe, but I would hate to think you left with hard feelings because you didn't understand the nature of a mailing list or because you believed you were being ignored.
