Good news....In a meeting with the County Commissioner's today we were given the OK to have the monument accessed. It's a huge step in the right direction. The Statue itself, meaning the Figure, is in pretty good shape. He is in need of cleaning. The rather large monument that he stands atop is taken from area stone and mortar and is chipping away rapidly. Some of the design within the stone is being lost. The tablets at the base, which were to be furnished by each township or borough representing those that lost their lives in the War, are cracked and have been make shift fixed. The large platform that the sculptor sits upon is cracked and in desperate need of repair. Just as the sculptor wasn't built in a day the restoration process will take awhile. Original cost of the Monument in 1876 was $4,000 I have a sneaking suspicion it will take a lot more to restore. Shari
