    3. Some of you have asked about the where-abouts of H.R\Archives. It is located in the Courthouse in what used to be the Lake Avenue School Gymnasium. There is only one way to access the Courthouse these days due to the rise in violence, which is through the main door. The guard on duty is more than helpful in showing directions. If you would like to come in person the hours are: Monday 9:00 - 4:30, Tuesday 9:00-12:00, Thursday 9:00 - 12:00 and Friday 9:00 - 4:30. Some of the holdings in H.R.|Archives are: tax records 1813 - 1990's, Naturalization files, Road Files, Common Pleas (early 1800's ), Quarter session files, many, many old books, Jail books (prisoner's), school records from around 1922 - 1970. Actual Newspapers, The Montrose Democrat and The Montrose Republican from I think and I'm going on memory here folks, 1897- ___ . Alot of interesting and much too numerous to mention. I also search the Register and Recorder's Office for marriage - late 1800's to present, death late 1800's to 1905 at which time the state took over recording, birth late 1800's to 1905 same as death, wills, deeds. If you choose to write for information it is best to send a self addressed stamped envelope. PS - Please don't forget the plight of the Civil War Monument!! Sharon
