Susquehanna Group: Eli Meeker [s/o Joshua & Abigail (Mills) Meeker] was born 1 Jan 1782 in Fairfield Ct. & died 14 Jan 1825 at Quarker Lake, Brackney Pa. Eli married Deborah Holmes born 1783 & died 11 Oct 1822. Their son William born 22 July 1802 & died 10 Apr 1880 married Anna Coon born 18 Apr 1809 & died 26 July 1873. Anna Coon was daughter of Abram & Miriam (Gage) Coon. William & Anna had sereral children, one of them was Henry Meeker born 1836 & died 1909 & is buried in Brackney Cemetery. If anyone has additional information on these Meeker's (some lived in Lawsville Pa) I would love to swap information. I also just got a invitation to the Lee/Stanford Reunion to be held July 29th at 12:00 at Smiley Hollow at South Gibson Pa. Are there anyone else related to this family out there? Mark
Mark, I have a bunch of Meeker Descendants that was sent to me by Larry Adams. His Meeker line fits yours. His last known e-mail address was AZRAINBOW@aol.com I am looking at the descendant chart he sent me snail mail and in it is 2nd wife of William Meeker was Anna Coon b. 1809 in Duanesburg, Schenectadt County NY. Married 1832 and she died 1873. He has an Eli Meeker died in Quaker Lake PA in 1825. Is this possibly your line too? Lori Keyrocker@aol.com
Up on route 29 is a cemetery on an off road to the left if you are coming up from NY side heading up to Ames Dept. store. My brother found it and we walked through it last year. There are some MEEKER buried there. In my family my great Uncle Lawrence Hickok married an Emma L. Meeker. I do not know if this person is still using aol but at the time his e-mail address was AZRAINBOW@aol.com. He was a grandson of Emma Meeker. Lori Keyrocker@aol.com
David E. Hanyon was a half brother to my Grandfather Raymond J. Trotter. David was the son of Jessie E. Hanyon and Jennie Oakley. My grandfathers father died and she re-married Jessie. I would love a copy of the photo. Lori (Trotter) Backus Keyrocker@aol.com
Do you know if there is a Carr Wilbur or a Mary/Clara Wilbur buried at the Brackney Cemetery. I know that this family intermarried with the Meeker bunch. Cindy
Speaking of a Gage/Gaige marrying a Meeker, I have a Helen Gage, daughter of Ezekiel and Olive Gage marrying Eli A. Meeker at the home of the Bride's parents in Silver Lake, Pa. on 22 Feb 1876 by the Rev. S.W. Spencer. Reported in the 8 Mar. 1876 edition of the Binghamton Republican. Both Eli A. and Helen are buried in the Glenwood Cemetery in Binghamton, but the dates on Helen are 1855-1906. Guess it's close but not the same pair. Hi List, Just for the record, the Eli Meeker who died 1/14/1825 is not the one married to Ellen Gaige who was born about 1835 in Silver Lake, PA. This Eli Meeker died before Ellen Gaige was born. Just wanted to clear up any confusion! JoAnne Gage Teske
TO: Rich Welch Sorry I can't help you, Rich. Unless one of the Gage/Gaiges married into the George Meeker family -- could be, but there are so MANY of us that I haven't run into another Meeker -- I wouldn't have any info. If, by chance, I find more Meeker/Gage info, I'll write the list. Happy Hunting! Hi MJ, Speaking of the name Meeker...one of Ezekiel H. Gaige's (wife, Rheuamy Miller) children, Ellen Gaige born about 1835 married an Eli Meeker. Ellen was born in Silver Lake, Susquehanna Co., PA. I went to Brackney Cemetery today and took pictures of all the stones. I am in process of transcribing. There are Howard, Gage, Meeker, Meaker, Frey, Keiper, Wakeley, Wilbur, Decker, Lee and Moses surnames. Some I can not decipher from pics and didnt chalk stones. "wayne susquehanna" <dickey.pa@draac.com> wrote ***** Ancestry has NO census data for Susquehanna and Wayne Counties after the year 1850. ***** On the 1850 Wayne Co. census, there is NO Sterling township. There is only St. Erling township (and it's missing people). I think that I can safely say that more than half of the Wayne Co and a reasonable portion of the Susquehanna Co census for 1850 is on my web site. (including Sterling Twp) http://www.dsdata.com.au/genealogy/nepa/census1850.html There is data from a few townships for 1870 and 1910. Unlike USGENWEB the site is created using addressable web pages and is fully indexed for ALL names. There are entries I have not been able to read - but I have made a number of corrections when informed of them - and will continue to do so. OTOH the site is in the process of being moved (though the URL will not change) as I have run out of space with the current provider. Hopefully the census portion of the site will remain up in the transistion. If you encouneter problems over the weekend try again in a couple of days. There is a fair bit of other information related to Northeastern PA. Fred Myers fredwm@perth.dialix.oz.au
Hi, Could you tell me who the Keipers were? Thanks Brenda
JoAnne, Sorry, I'm absent minded. I'm not descended from the Archer family you mentioned. I'm descended from Wm. Archer who arrived in NYC in 1830 from Staffordshire, Eng. Thanks for trying, though. JoAnne, Thanks for the offer, but I received a better one. Another subscriber has the actual census on CD. I didn't even know there was a CD of the 1860 census of Susquehanna Co. I'm not sure if the name is Sutton or Sutter. With the actual, maybe she can find the right one. Oh, I also don't know the first name of the husband, but the wife is Matilda. I hope the CD is easy to use. I have a copy of a postcard which was written by my grandfather's (John Seth Chandler, aka Seth J. Chandler) nephew Oney Chandler (father was Charles Eugene Chandler) with a picture of Oney and another older gentleman, whose name I could not make out on the postcard. The postcard was addressed to a Mr. David Hanyon, Kingsley, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. The message reads: David: Taken in Bingo NY March 27, 1913. We are well and hope you are the same from O.E.C. and S. The front of the postcard contains a photograph of both men. If there are relatives of either of these gentlemen, I will be happy to make a copy of same or if someone has any idea who the gentleman with Oney Chandler might be, I will be thankful for that information. I am researching my Chandler line and have reached a brick wall with John Seth Chandler's grandfather. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jan in Florida
Would the person with the CD please check for a Joseph H Allen Many thanks S Laing
Does anyone have access to an 1860 census index for Susquehanna Co? Or, the actual census? More specifically, I'm interested in N. Jackson. Thanks, Marc
Hi! >>RE: " ...I could check for an index listing as a member of Ancestry.com." Researchers please note, and save yourself the hassle -- ***** Ancestry has NO census data for Susquehanna and Wayne Counties after the year 1850. ***** On the 1850 Wayne Co. census, there is NO Sterling township. There is only St. Erling township (and it's missing people). Nothing on the Ancestry site tells you this info is missing. I wrote to ask why all our Dickeys and both sets of Smiths just disappeared after 1850 (they didn't ALL go to KS). It took three replies before they would admit the AIS index they rely on does NOT have that data. They showed no interest in obtaining the missing info for the database. (I also sent them the Sterling correction, and people missing from that census, with specific page and line numbers, but they didn't make the changes.) We belong to Ancestry, too. We've learned to read the full description of every database; many are much less inclusive than they appear from the names Ancestry gives them. You pay for databases, you get databases. There is no promise of quality. Caveat emptor. Elaine DICKEY/CUMBO dickey.pa@draac.com ======================= .
