Does anyone know about a "Asa Bonney" who wrote an article for a paper in the 1890's, I believe? Was he from Susquehanna County? Is there any way to get a copy of the ariticle. I believe it was about the history of the area and information about the people who lived there. Thanks Mel
Hello fellow researchers, I have found reference to my 4th great grandparents, John and Phoebe READ WHIPPLE, in 'The Commemorative Biographical Record of Northeastern Pennsylvania.' I strongly believe John is the son of David and Johanna JONES WHIPPLE, of Schenectady Co., NY but can find no more than very good circumstantial evidence at this point (including several references in the book). Phoebe is the daughter of John and Sarah WILSON READ. I know very little more about either John or Phoebe's lives. But, they had 13 children and was hoping that someone else may also be researching this family. I have additional information that I'd love to share if anyone's interested. The names and most dates came originally from a family bible, as follows: John WHIPPLE, b. Feb 19, 1791; d. May 1866, Mansfield, Cattaraugus Co., NY (the date in the bible was 1856). Phoebe, b. Apr 14, 1789, d. Dec 28 1858, Mansfield, Cattaraugus Co., NY. Children: Cynthia, b. May 27, 1811 Joanna, b. Dec 4, 1812 Samuel J., b. Apr 14, 1814, d. Jan 1881, m. Zillah BUTTS Timothy V., b. Dec 29, 1815, m. Belinda HATCH Elizabeth, b. Nov 3, 1817 Joseph, b. Nov 4, 1818 Mary, b. July 23, 1821, d. Jan 24, 1852 Anne, b. Mar 29, 1822 John J., b. Dec 2, 1823 *David, b. Dec 4, 1825, d. May 12, 1871, m. Clarissa Ann BOTSFORD Sally, b. Aug 9, 1827 Sarepta, b. Apr 17, 1830, m. Samuel WILBER Theron Morgan, b. Mar 3, 1834 * my ancestors Any relatives out there? Brian [email protected]
Your ggrandmother's spelling is the culprit - it's Lanesboro and it's still there. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, June 22, 1999 9:18 PM Subject: REYNOLDS-Lainsboro > According to my ggrandmother's bible, my ggrandfather , Frank P. Unfortunately, I am not in possession of the Bible, I merely copied as much information as I could. However, my mother told me that we are related to Oakleys but I have no idea how. My grandmother Lulu Pearl Reynolds b. 25 Mar 1888 GGrandfather Frank P. Reynolds b 9 Dec 1852 My grandmother had a cousin, Oscar Reynolds, lived at Hells Half Acre outside of Kingsley. She also had brothers, Adnah, Charles, Norris and sister Jesse. I remember going to a Reynolds reunion at the church in Lakeside (I think). It was pictured on the Susquehanna County Historical Journal. Maybe we are related and don't know it yet. Jan in Florida
I am a little curious about your Reynolds because I have a female Ella A. Reynolds. She was born in 1827 and is my grandparent x 3. She was married to Jeremiah Oakley in 1876. They died in Jermyn, Pennsylvania. I haven't any other info on her as of yet. I also have a marriage of a E. Grant Reynolds toCarrie Stevens d/o Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Stevens for October 14, 1894 in Elkdale, Pennsylvania. Do either of these names show in your family bible? [email protected]
According to my ggrandmother's bible, my ggrandfather , Frank P. Reynolds, was born in Lainsboro 9 Dec. 1852. What county is this in? Is it Susq. Cty? TIA for any assistance or information in trying to trace this man. Jan in Florida
Thanks for responding, Mary- I'm afraid I don't have info that my family was ever in Luzerne County and there's no record of a Frank Crowley, either, in two generations (18 children all told). I started this quest a grand total of about 13 months ago with my grandfather's death certificate, which didn't list his mother's name. In case someone hasn't made the suggestion to you already, I got that information from his Social Security application, which requires listing place of birth, father and mother's names. You need to have a good idea of your grandfather's date and place of death to get a SS number (several sites can get you there - www.kindredkonnections.com is one) although it may be on the death certficate. Then a letter to the SSA with a check for $7.00 and patience (it took 3 months to get a response). They explain all this at their site (www.SSA.gov/reach.htm). Good luck on your search..
I am searching for James Myers, he was born about 1867 in Scott Twp. His father was Anthony Myers, his mother was Angeline Taylor. He had a sister Mary E. and a brother Asa. He was listed on the 1880 census as being in Scott Twp. but could not find him in Lackawanna county for other census years. I was told that he was in Wyoming County but have not made any searches there. I would be greatful for any and all information Ted
Dear Neil, Don't know if it's any family connection but my grandfather was Frank Crowley married to Winifred Gill on June 29, 1909. Their marriage license was issued by the Clerk of the Orphans Court of Luzerne County, Pa. #52777. They were married by Rev. Geo. J. Lucas, D.D in St. Mary's Church, Upper West Pittston. That's all I know. Don't know who his parents were. I just started researching. Mary

I'm looking for information about Cornelius CROWLEY and his wife Julia DOW who apparently acquired a farm in Silver Lake township around 1835 and were there at least until 1860; both were born in Ireland, although Julia may have grown up in Silver Lake -- I am unable to find any other Dow family listed there. They had some 12 children and may have spent some time in Binghamton, NY before moving to PA. I'm also particularly interested in his his son, Cornelius A. CROWLEY (born 1835) who seems to have moved to Binghamton around 1870 (?) and then returned around 1879-80 to farm in Forest Lake Township. His wife was Mary BARNES (father Edward Barnes, mother Mary FOGARTY) who was born in Ireland in 1847 and emigrated around 1866. They both died in Binghamton in the 1930's. Any information about the Crowley, Dow or Barnes families would be greatly appreciated. Neil Crowley Albany , NY [email protected]
Jeannette, Thanks. I'm not far away. Maybe I'll just drop in. Ann ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, June 17, 1999 12:24 PM Subject: Re: PASUSQUE-D Digest V99 #155 > Ann > My suggestion as how to contact them is to just keep trying. > >
Ann My suggestion as how to contact them is to just keep trying. It's volunteer, no phone, I don't think, and only open Sun PMs. Some of the volunteers are more responsive than others, and they seem to have much work to do. Jeannette
I have written to them twice and never got a response. How does one get their attention? ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, June 16, 1999 11:29 AM Subject: Re: PASUSQUE-D Digest V99 #154 > Can't remember how far Kingsley is from Susquehanna town, but Susquehanna > Depot Historical Society located in Depot, and open Sundays, 12-4PM, has more > than just railroad and town items and info for anyone who may need for the > area. > > Jeannette > >
Can't remember how far Kingsley is from Susquehanna town, but Susquehanna Depot Historical Society located in Depot, and open Sundays, 12-4PM, has more than just railroad and town items and info for anyone who may need for the area. Jeannette
Hi everyone, I have been given cemetery records for Maplewood Cemetery in Kingsley, Sus. Co., Pa. If anyone has family buried there that they have found on my cemetery page, just email me and I will give you the information on your kin. I am pondering over whether or not to actually put the list up. I will for the time being answer email queries address to me at: [email protected] - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- Researching: Brown, Tewksbury, Wilmarth, Tiffany, Tingley, Squires, Sterling all from Susquehanna Co., Pa. http://home.stny.Lrun.com/brown/index.htm http://members.xoom.com/mjwanc/~index.htm http://members.xoom.com/Will2me/w~index.htm
According to my grandmother's bible, my father's brother Lynne Walker Chandler b. 10 October 1901, d. 2 April 1903. A few years back I spoke to sexton of New Milford Cemetery who told me there was no record that he was buried there but my grandmother always went to the gravesite (unmarked now). Any suggestions about finding a copy of newspaper death notice or what funeral home I might inquire for information on this baby. Since I live in Florida, I am unable to get to Historical society to check their records. Any help or lookups will be sincerely appreciated. Jan in Florida
