I am looking for the parents of Hattie Quick who was born in 1860 and married Frederick Roberts in 1880 in probably either Dimock or Jessup. The last names I am researching are: Roberts, Shelp, McKeeby, Shay, Bennet and Depue. I have information about a lot of them with the exception of the Quick family. It is family tradition that they are an Indian line, but I have not verified this. I know there were lots of Quicks in Susquehanna county who were not Indians because I have seen their names when I have looked through the censuses. I would be interested to knkow what type of church records the Susquehanna Historical Society has. I could go to the LDS FHL in Salt Lake City and look up something for somebody if they could go to the Susquehanna Historical Society and look through there church records. Thank you George Huber Mary Jean wrote: > > George, > The Susquehanna Historical Society may have some church records. Hi, I saw your posting and I was interested in your Indian line, because my family has an Indian ancester, and as recently as my mother's generation they were still passing down her name, Cayuga (which I assume is the tribe from NY) But what really caught my eye was the name Roberts, because one of the 2 possible Indian lines is a Mary Phinney who m. George Reynolds. She also bought a whole bunch of land for $5, low even in those days, from a Thomas & Elizabeth Roberts. I'm guessing that they may have been her grandpa, rents & I wondered if you might have something on the Roberts of Luzerne co, esp. around Scranton area. DATA: Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, Index to Deeds: Book 136, page 160: Thomas Roberts et al. to Mary Ann REYNOLDS, 20 Nov 1869, Hyde Park Thanks! Susan in San Jose

HI! AOL email will not accept html. We'd changed the color in ours (so we could read it) and every email we sent to AOL users was received as a black page. Now we detach the codes before sending. Our connection to Susquehanna County is the DICKEY surname, which we are actively researching. In Susquehanna Co., vicinities are: Harmony Twp., Susquehanna/Oakland, Ararat, Gelatt, Gibson, Herrick Center, South Gibson, Clifford. (and in Wayne Co., vicinities are: Scott Twp., and Starrucca.) At the moment, we're scouting assorted Dickey women spouses: BALL, Henry (Clara / Clarrisa, b. 1799) BROWN, John (Sarah E., b. 1833) CONKLIN, D. C. (Almeda, b. 1834) HYDE, Henry H. (Sibbel / Syble, b. 1796) OWENS, W. H. (Sarah, 1865-1895) PECK, Louis (Lucy, b. 1804) as well as wives of Nelson DICKEY (1840-1902) other than Martha Powell HUGHES (1844-1890) and all of his children (As verified, we have Edward, Sarah, Garfield, and William E. As rumored, we have Frank, Elizabeth, Nelson, David, Irvin E., Silas C., and Stanley.) Nelson wove a tangled web! We've been very fortunate in locating much family beyond Susquehanna Co., but find we are most interested in these elusive "folks from home," (most of whom we believe stayed home) and we are enjoying the hunt tremendously! Elaine and Norman C. Dickey
I had a question for anybody on the list. My ancestors are from Susquehanna county mostly from the township of Dimock and Jessup. Are there any church records for these two townships? I think that they were Methodist. I am looking for church records between about 1800-1920. I have looked at the LDS FHL in Salt Lake and they don't have very many church records and none for the townships I want. I was wondering if the churches in these two townships kept their own records. George Huber

Janet, I have tentatively planned August 9 for trip. I would like to check records at county court house and the Susquehanna County Historical Society. Have you researched in Susquehanna Co. before? Are the staff at the county courthouse helpful? Regards, Barbara
