Don: If you should hear from anyone reference these families, would you please contact me with their e-mail address. Polly Oakley made deposition in the pension papers of William Jackson. His wife is "Squirrell." It is interesting that these families appear in the Historical Society, yet there is no name attached. How did they get there? Or is it just that someone submitted but did not wish to have their name attached? Thank you for your response. This genealogy is so exciting. I wish I lived back in Pennsylvania. I have 4 main family lines from there and all my research has to be done via computer. Maybe some day I will be able to spend time right there. More later. Always, Barbara

Yes, the family group sheet seems to agree with you. It shows William Jackson (Rev. Sold.) and Sophia Squirrell [or maybe Squorrell] as the parents of this Mary (Polly) Jackson. MaryJean, see any Burchells or Baldwins in that Connecticutt cemetery? Thanks, Ken
I believe this Mary (Polly) Jackson OAKLEY to be one in the same child of William JACKSON who was a Rev War soldier. I have 54 pages of his pension papers from the National Archives. The Michael Shoemaker Book states that he is the father of my gg grandfather, Samuel JACKSON born 1805 who lived and died in Kingston and Carverton, Luzerne County. If anyone out there lays claim to these families, PLEASE contact me as above or [email protected] I would be delighted to share the pension papers and exchange information. Always, Barbara
The Thompson Cemetery is just off the intersection in Thompson where state route 171 northbound takes a left turn toward Susquehanna, for a landmark, the old "Thompson Hose Company" firehouse is at that corner; to get to the old old entrance to the cemetery, make a right turn at that intersection instead of the left. There is an old, overgrown driveway that branches off to the left, about 1/8 mile from the turn. The sign overhead the driveway is easy to miss, quite old and deteriorated, just the spooky thing to scare little kids (like I was twenty five years ago!). There is another old, and virtually abandoned cemetery, unnamed as far as I know: from the right turn in Thompson discussed above, proceed about 3 to 3 1/4 miles to a crossroads, and make a left; the old cemetery is about 3/4 to one mile down on the right, just past the barn on the right. There are about 30 - 40 sites in that old place. There is also a newer cemetery, also on 171, just before you enter Thomson northbound. Hope this helps. > Date: Sat, 7 Aug 1999 13:37:18 EDT > To: [email protected] > > I can anyone out there tell me where Thompson Susquehanna County is and what > cemeteries are around it. As I have gone through and checked the list of the Tolland Ct. cemetery I have found names in this partial listing start with the surname of LUCE and end with E. YOUNG, sorry for any inconvenience. However there is also a small partial listing of Skunkamaug Cemetery with names starting with ABEL and ending with E. KELLOGG. Griffin Reynolds is descended from William Reynolds of Wyoming Valley/massacre fame. I've got info on that line, which is the Reynolds of RI line. Susan
Thought I remembered seeing someone talking here last week about not knowing how the REYNOLDS and OAKLEYs are related. I found a family group sheet with no compiler named in the Reynolds vertical file at the Wyoming Co. Historical Soc. It shows: Alma Elizabeth REYNOLDS, b. 16 Mar 1822, d. 16 Aug 1901, buried Oakley Cem., parents Griffon REYNOLDS and Mary (Polly) STANTON Alma m. Perry O. OAKLEY, b. 4 Sep 1820, d. 1 Feb 1899, buried Oakley Cem., parents Samuel OAKLEY and Mary (Polly) JACKSON Alma and Perry had a child: Merrit Wilson OAKLEY, b. ~1846, d. ~1914, buried Oakley Cem., married Julia Etta DAILY Hope this is of interest to someone, Don --- Don Pitts ([email protected])
LDS Ancestral file lists as a child of Christopher Sherman and Patience Childs (who married 7 April 1785, RI) as their first daughter Mary Brady Childs b. 19 Feb 1780, Portsmouth, New Port, RI. Does any researcher of this line know if Mary was an illegitimate child of Patience or is the submitter of this information confused? Mary went on to marry David Dewers in 1799 in Kingsbury, Washington, NY and had a daughter Ruth who married to Simeon Bolles, who are my GGG Grandparents. She and David lived in Jessup and died in 1848 and 1850, respectively, and are reportedly buried in Birchardville. Kandy Fancher Bowden
