    1. Nice people
    2. Welcome Dennis! I just had a nice story told to me today and I hope you all don't mind if I repeat it here. I was chatting with this lady when one thing led to another. I told her about my hobby of genealogy. She in turn told me how "Someone" had looked up her family tree. But the best part was that she said there was a family story abiout her grandfather coming through Ellis Island that. He was Polish and there was a Scotsman with 14 children. She said the Scotsman had no shoes and they put you in jail for not having shoes. Well her grandfather had an extra pair of shoes and gave them to the Scot. The Scot then offered him his bagpipe, which her grandfather refused. The Scot then gestured to give the shoes back. Neither speaking the others language communicated that one could not accept the shoes without payment of the bagpipe in return. She states her family still has the bagpipe and the children get it out occasionally and try to play it. I wonder if anyone would be that kind in todays world? Cindy Ormond Bch.FL

    3. Martha and All, You are right on with this. Part of being on a list is seeing if you can help others or get information for yourself. Not all messages pertain to everyone, "nor can everyone help on each posting". If [email protected] does not understand that its there own fault for susbcribing to the list and not understanding that if no answer comes back its because "no one has the info". If the posting on the quesry system doesn't work there is always requesting someone to perform a look-up. (I guess this takes being pro-active in your search) This county list is not different than any other. I have been involved in other list where it seems sort of clickish and I don't think this is the case with Susquehanna. I sure received a great welcome yesterday, and lots of responses. I only hope that my contribution to the list, and our web site will increase the value. Many thanks to everyones participation........... Dennis Fox [email protected] www.foxgenealogy.com ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, September 08, 1998 11:24 AM Subject: Re: Unsubscribe Perhaps your post's have been too broad in scope. You should specify who, where, and when in requesting info. As for "one sentence nomeaning emails", I think you must be mistaken. I find the queries on this list very good. I do not feel the folks on this list are more interested in themselves than helping others. And all those "others" on the list have the courtesy to sign their name. Martha On Thu, 9 Sep 1999 08:34:22 EDT [email protected] writes: unsubscribe me too. everyone on this list is more concerned about themselves than they are about helping others. I have sent out many questions and got nothing back. But yet i have had to read everyone elses one sentence nomeaning emails.

    2. Not to be facitious, but the names Philo & Philena lend themselves to these thoughts, children could have been named Phila, Phillippia, Phil, Phyllis and many others. LOL Aren't old family names fun...my mom & siblings were named: Dorcie Ivie, Avis Wealtha, Orval Raymond, Forrest Charles, Reva Marvel & Belva Lillie. Grandma was Pirlie Dorcie & grandpa was Clark Raymond. Chris

Jim Conboy > > Hi Jim, I have been searching and searching for the ancestors of Bridgette Loretta McHugh of Susquehanna Co., PA. She also went by the name of Bridgette Kane as she was unofficially adopted and raised by her Aunt Margaret McNulty Kane and her husband John Kane. All I know is Margaret and John were born in County Mayo, Ireland in May of 1851 and May of 1845. I think Bridgette was born on the ship coming from Ireland or in NY City on landing or possibly in Buffalo, NY on January 22, 1889. Bridgette's mother, Catherine McNulty, died shortly after her birth and her mother's sister, Margaret, raised her. Bridgette died in Montrose, Susquehanna Co., PA in `1936 and is buried at Dalton, PA. She married Harry Jefferson Greene in 1906. He was born in Taylor or Dixon City, Pa and died in 1944 and is buried in Danville, PA. That's all I know about the family. Bridgette is my husband's grandmother. Any info you can find would greatly be appreciated. Thanks. Karen Hillis [email protected]

    3. Mary Jean, I didn't know where I would end up when I was there in July. I thought that I would find Clara's death certificate in the Wyoming County courthouse, but no such luck. I have checked the Soundex for HARVEYs and couldn't come up with anything. I had forgotten that Kaiserville was in Wyoming County. Clara lived in Meshoppen when she died and is buried in St Joacham Cemetery with her husband and one son. Frank HAMPSEY (her husband) was the son of Michael HAMPSEY and Elizabeth COOK, they are also buried in St Joacham Cemetery. Apparently William COOK is buried in the cemetery in Auburn. I know there is more than one and I do not know what denomination they were. I was at the Catholic cemetery east of Auburn Center and didn't notice any HAMPSEYs, HARVEYs, or COOKs.
