--part1_235cc60d.2509d761_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit OK, OK, if you're desperate, here's a long shot: There is a line of Lewis folk from Rhode Island who married into the Burdick line. (So what?) Well, several Burdicks moved to Clifford Township in N/E Susq. It's common for family groups to relocate together and many families came from RI to Susq in about 1815-17. The Robert Burdick genealogy has info on the older Lewis generations which I have noted in my database. It probably has later info also. If you can't access it I can check for you next time I'm at the library. I have a Wm. Lewis b. 1760, son of John (III) & Thankful Lewis. (Names sometimes stay in families) His grandma was Mary Burdick, and other Lewis people married Burdicks, so the 2 families have a lot of tangled relationships. I attached a gedcom file extracted from my database. See if the names are found in later generations of your family. Chris, It's the nature of mailing lists to get a lot of messages that don't concern you. However, I do agree that sometimes I appear to get only answers without getting the questions. Could it be that some people are sending messages privately and the responses are coming to the list? I've asked before that everyone be careful about putting a meaningful subject on their messages rather than just leaving the original subject, no matter how inappropriate. If we all adhere to that suggestion, it's very easy to delete those messages that don't concern you. I have learned very little from this list, but it's not the fault of the members. It's simply that no one else is researching the people I'm looking for. I stay, however, because the next new subscriber may be my long-lost cousin with the family bible that answers all my questions. As others have pointed out, there are a couple of reasons why you may not have received a response. First, and simplest, no one has the answer. A mailing list is simply a vehicle for exchanging information, not a service bureau where you can order up the answers you need. If I had had anything to offer you, I would certainly have responded, and I'm sure I speak for everyone on the list. Second, perhaps you are providing incomplete information. Have you told us everything you know about the ancestors you are seeking? It could be that you are not being specific enough (e. g., time period, location, etc.). If you have not learned anything from the list, of course you should unsubscribe, but I would hate to think you left with hard feelings because you didn't understand the nature of a mailing list or because you believed you were being ignored. Hi, Dennis! Welcome, and thank you! Now a question -- it's probably me, but are we "losing" data on the county page? Seems we used to have cemeteries, no? Is the GenWeb's new agenda to delocalize county pages in favor of a statewide base? The local items are what make up a county's character and are an expression of the people who live (or did live) there. That would be a shame to lose'! This is not criticism - it's just "wondering." (I must be aging - I seem to be resisting change!) Thanks, again! Elaine of Norman and Elaine researching DICKEY [email protected]
Greetings :-) With a name like LEWIS, there must be....oh....I'd say ......ten thousand researchers from the Susquehanna County area ALONE!!!!...but I can't seem to find even a nibble on my Julianna Maria Lewis b. 1828 from Springville. She married Pardon WELCH of Springville on 31 Mar 1848 in Lemon Township, Wyoming County. She supposedly died in Pike township, Bradford County in 1902 while living with her daughter Emily Bradshaw, (wife of Elmore)....Julianna's name at death was Julianna (Julia) SHOOK, as she remarried after Pardon died. After years trying to prove relationship to the Bradford County LEWIS's with no success, and attempting to link her to the Nathaniel/Thurston LEWIS family of Susquehanna, also with no success......I am trying to find someone that recognizes the William LEWIS, buried in the Lynn Cemetery, b. 1797 d. 1850. Could William be associated with the Lemon twp/Wyoming names of Abner, Andrew Jackson, Rebecca, George W., Horatio, Charles M. and Phebe. Could he be the husband of Sarah A. b. 1803 listed in the 1860 Lemon Twp census? (....they hung around the Fish families....) I need to crack open this LEWIS thing.....so I can get started with my wife's SMITHS!!!
