Did you try to find any church records? There was a church in Springville that doesn't exist anymore but I was told that the records were transferred to a Methodist church. My ancestors were also from Springville and I cannot find anything on them either. I contacted one of the Methodist churches there and they said they would look for the records because they believed that the St. Andrews records we given to them, unfortunately I haven't heard back yet. If you are able to learn of any church records dating back to that time please let me too. A number were offered land and incentives to settle in Susquehanna. My ancestors were among these and they settled in the Middletown, Friendsville, Silver Lake area. In the early-mid 1850s a number of these families migrated to MN where they settled in Jessenland and Faxon Townships of what became Sibley County, MN. My GRIMES and DOHENY ancestors were among these and also led the migration to MN. Other Families that also went to MN include BOLAND, O'Shaughnessy/Shaughnessy, FAHY, HEATHERSTONE, BARGER, CUNNINGHAM, TIERNEY, FLYNN, DOLAN/DOLIN, MADDEN, and HEALY. Others that may also have gone to MN include CONBOY, HUNT, KEHOE, TRIMBO, NOLAN, BUCKLEY, GRADY, FITZGERALD, SULLIVAN, and DOUGHERTY. If anyone is researching the above names or other Irish families from Susquehanna, and have a dead end in the 1850s, I may have info that will pickup the thread in MN. Mary Jean, Thanks for your generous offer. Any information on these two elusive ladies would be very welcome. LOVINA SWACKHAMMER had several husbands and we can find nothing on her in Bradford County, so will have to look elsewhere. How any lady in the 1800s, then the 1900s could have so many marriages and not leave a trail is beyond me. She is supposed to have died about 1935 and may have had a final husband with the name of PIERCE (again). She was my g-grandmother and my dad said "she was quite a gal." JULIA HERD/HURD/HEARN - same elusive type. She was supposed to have died in 1865. Lived in Susquehanna County. hmmm A gentleman took over list from previous owner and it was never part of susquehanna website that is why I asked. Yes Mary Jean, I now have the the list. I was told this is part of being the coordinator. If I am incorrect someone please tell me. I do thisnk that posting the surnames in the subject line is a good idea. Good idea, but for the sake of the Archives, if nothing else, don't you think we should put some surnames in the subject rather than just 'Roll call' ? LEWIS......... I had a couple LEWISs in my line that came from NY to Luzerne County, PA. Here is what little I have from another researcher. I can put you in touch with her and see if she has any other info on LEWIS. STEPHEN CASE, son of Absalom Case, was born ca. 1763 in "01d Paltz" according to his application for a pension for service in the Revolutionary War made in the court in Calhoun Co., Michigan in 1838. He claimed that in 1777, at age 14, he accompanied his uncle Captain Stephen Case, into service. He married Esther Lewis, daughter of James and Sarah (North) Lewis ca. 1804, said to be at Newburg, NY. They apparently resided for some time in Luzerne Co., as their son, Stephen, was born in Kingston, Penn. in 1805. As noted above, Stephen Case was in Plymouth, Luzerne Co. Penn. In 1810 census, where he counted 4 males under 10; 1 male 16-26 and 1 female 26-45. By 1814, son, William Mead, was born in Lansing (then Cayuga Co.), NY, which became Tompkins Co., NY. (Esther's parents were in Lansing, NY in 1814). Stephen Case is listed in Reading, Steuben Co., NY in 1820, (which is apparently he, as Stephen and (H)Esther Case sold property in Campbell, Steuben Co., NY in 1838 as residents of Calhoun Co., Mich. In the 1830 census, they were in Erie Co., NY near Esther's brothers. By 1836, Stephen moved his family to Calhoun Co., Mich., as daughter, Julia, married there in 1837. Stephen Case sold property in Calhoun Co., Mich. to Joel Clemons, husband of his daughter, Julia, in 1837 at Fredonia; and in 1838 applied for his Revolutionary Pension at the Court there (it was denied). Stephen apparently died soon after, as he does not appear in 1840 in that Michigan census. (One record says that he died 1843, if so, he may have been living in the household of one of his children so was not listed. A man of his age is not counted in the households of James C. or Bartemas Case or Joel Clemons in that 1840 census year.) Esther died 15 Feb. 1862, age 82, and is buried in Oakridge Cemetery at Marshall, Mich. Children: 1. Stephen b. 1805 Penn. 2. James Cornelius b. 2 Dec. 1806 Penn.; m. Jane Hasty; d.Newton, MI 1889. 3. Thomas b. 12 Jan. 1810 Penn.; m. Laura 4. Bartemas b. 4 June 1805 (lived Newton, Calhoun Co., Mich. in 1840 census); apparently deceased before 1850. 5. Joel Clemons; d. 21 Feb. 1888 Marshall, MI. 7. David 8. Walter?(no further record, and no proof) THOMAS CASE, son of Absalom and Sarah Elizabeth (Dunn), was born 16 Aug. 1771 Orange Co., NY. He married 9 Jan. 1793 to Catherine Skadden(Caskadden). In 1810, he is listed in Plymouth, Luzerne Co., Penn. with 4 males under 10; 2 ages 10-16; 2 ages 16-26; 1 female under 10; 1 female 10-16; and 1 ages 16-26. He died 11 June 1844, Jackson Twp., Luzerne Co., Penn., Case Cemetery. Children: 1. Absalom b. ca. 1798; m. Jane Lamoreaux 2. Wesley b. 1803; m. Susan L. Hazelhurst 16 Apr. 1848 3. Fletcher m. All: My plan is to have a model off the Tompkins County, NY page. I was told that we can do any format we choose. I agree that our page is in sad shape. I must determine of what is there, what can we use. I don't want to offend anyone and remove something that someone has spent time and effort to have posted. If anyone has time please visit this site and see how wonderful it is. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nytompki/ I am not as prepared to go all out right away and make our page exactly like the Tompkins County Page. I am hoping that the format that we do choos will allow for growth without to much work. If I can crate these documents in tables and add the information as it comes in I think we can get there. I have just moved my personal page and am trying to decide on a format for it as well. The only thing I had started on was a basic template (or format) if anyone was curious and went to my home page. I would appreciate some feedback on thought of the Tompkins County Page. Welcome, and thank you! Now a question -- it's probably me, but are we "losing" data on the county page? Seems we used to have cemeteries, no? Is the GenWeb's new agenda to delocalize county pages in favor of a statewide base? The local items are what make up a county's character and are an expression of the people who live (or did live) there. That would be a shame to lose'! This is not criticism - it's just "wondering." Hello everyone! I am researching the following from Susquehanna County: Descendants of George BUMP (b.9 Jul 1786 d.3 Apr 1863). George Martin EDWARDS (b1873 d.1955). Punderson BENNINGER and his wife Lucy CARLIN. I belive that Punderson is buried in the South Auburn Cemetery. I also know that a son Wilbur BENNINGER (b.11 Aug 1904 d. Mar 1976) lived in Montrose. I've had good responses to some inquiries and no responses to others. I've had people send me tons of great stuff and even go look up things for me, on their own. And I've sent tons of stuff on to others. It really varies. Helps to be specific & give lots of information in message. I've also had good luck posting on message boards for counties or surnames. Sometimes takes months before someone comes along & answers you. May be good for people who don't want 800 emails a day! However, look on the bright side: Reading emails fast, fast, faster can really pick up your speed reading. Susan in San Jose
