Sue I certainly do NOT have any descendants listed in any 1820 census in Springville Twp or anywhere else for that matter! : ) I have descendants listed in the 2000 census and I expect they will be in subsequent censi also -- Bill Strickland Oregon City OR Susan Bennett-Dyson wrote: > Hi All, > I am looking for Descendants of the Settlers of Springville Township, > Susquehanna County. I'm glad to do your lookups (it's my way of paying back the rootsweb "cousins" who have been so helpful to me.) But, please, if you have a query please post to the list. That way all the surnames I have or have NOT found will be seen by others. Good hunting to all of you--Jean Spalding Barbour

Hello Listers, I'm new to this list and wonder if anyone can help me locate the following: 1) Elkanah Gaige/Gage b. about 1801 & wife Phebe/Phoebe Howard b. abt. 1803. These are my GGgrandparents. Children: Almarvia b. 1829 in Brackney, PA; Sarah b. 1831 in Brackney, PA who married Randolph Lottridge; Daniel b. 2/1836 in Brackney, PA who married Mary Caroline Archer (parents: Henry Purdy Archer & Abagail Moore) in Winona, MN where he went to homestead. Elkanah & Phebe were Quakers. Cannot locate Phebe Howard's parents; nor info on Almarvia & Sarah. 2) Neale Britton b. 1815 in Ireland arrived on ship "Oswego" with wife, Ellen, in 1843. Daughter Kathryn/Kate/Catherine born 1852 in Silver Lake, Susquehanna Co., PA. Neale died in 1855 in Silver Lake, Susquehanna Co., PA. Ellen Britton married my Ggrandfather, Charles M. Gage on 11/15/1858 in Binghamton, NY (justice of peace). They also left to homestead in Winona, Winona Co., MN. No cemetery listing for Neale Britton -- if I can locate his tombstone, hopefully it would provide the county of Irish origin for Neale & Ellen. There were many Gages living in Susquehanna County in the mid-to-late 1800's, so hope someone out in cyberspace can connect. Many thanks for listening and reading! JoAnne Gage Teske - WI

JEAN: Thank you for your interesting response. My DEANS ancestors have the "s" at end of surname. Always thought that was a "mistake" but descendants kept the "s". The earliest I can document is (Deacon) Zebulon Deans (also was a carpenter), b 1770 "from" Lebanon CT, d April 14, 1848 in Bridgewater, Susquehanna Co., PA. As for PARKER, ..."my" William d Saybrook, CT 1686, and other (Joseph) Wm d 1866 Montrose, PA, so wrong time period. (One of his sons, by same given name died 1890 Friendsville, Sus. Co., PA)....and "my" Sgt. John (middle name unknown) Parker d in Havana, Cuba in 1762 Thanks, JEANNE From: Barbours@aol.com <Barbours@aol.com> To: PASUSQUE-L@rootsweb.com <PASUSQUE-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, June 19, 2000 8:31 PM Subject: Re: Book--Indian Wars in Pennsylvania >Hi Jeanne-- > >If you mean DEAN rather than DEANS, here is a reference on pg. 537 under >Massacres in Blair County. > >"About 1768, Adam and William Holliday settled near where the town of >Hollidaysburg, Blair County, now stands.....In 1778 a party of Indians came >to the house of Matthew DEAN in Canoe Valley, Catherine Township, Blair >County, while he and his older children were working in a field, and murdered >his wife and three small children. Hi Jeanne-- If you mean DEAN rather than DEANS, here is a reference on pg. 537 under Massacres in Blair County. "About 1768, Adam and William Holliday settled near where the town of Hollidaysburg, Blair County, now stands.....In 1778 a party of Indians came to the house of Matthew DEAN in Canoe Valley, Catherine Township, Blair County, while he and his older children were working in a field, and murdered his wife and three small children. A young man named Simonton was at the Dean home at the time. He was taken prisoner and never heard of again. In September 1909 a monument was erected at Keller Church Cemetery memorializing this tragedy." There are three PARKERS in the index: Amos, Sgt. Michael, and William. Any of these yours? No Sterlings listed. Jean Spalding Barbour
