I am descended from Levi Shaffer, (son of George H.) born 22 May 1831, died 6 Oct 1917. He married Catherine Hummel, born 20 Dec 1834, died 15 Jan 1899. Their son, (my great-grandfather) was John H Shaffer, born 26 Sep 1861 in Chapman Twp., died 23 Dec 1927 in Northumberland. He married Christiana Leach, daughter of John S. Leach and Catherine Price. Christiana was born 12 Mar 1867 in Chapman Twp, died 29 Mar 1933 in Northumberland. I have been unable to find a marriage date for John and Christiana, but their children were: my grandmother, Catherine Shaffer, born 13 Dec 1883 in Chapman Twp, died 24 Sept 1964 in Harrisburg; and William Shaffer, born 19 Dec 1888 in Chapman Twp, died in Northumberland. Catherine married my grandfather, Samuel Mathias Tyson, born 28 Sep 1887 in Watsontown, died 13 Sep 1966 in Harrisburg. They were married 21 Nov 1908 in Northumberland. My father, Samuel Kenneth Tyson was born in Northumberland 19 April 1909 (oops!) and died 7 Sep 1961 in Highland Park, IL. I would like to know more about George H Shaffer, as well as the Leach family. I hope this adds to your line! Sandra Tribe (sandratribe@hotmail.com)

    1. [PASNYDER-L] Shamokin Dam Sawmill
    2. Can anyone tell me anything about a sawmill located in Shamokin Dam in the late 1800's/early 1900's that belonged to Charles W. Brown and his wife, Sarah Eshelman Brown? They are my gg grandparents. I'd also appreciate any info on their families. (I have their children's names and birthdates, but very little otherwise.) Charles was born in MD (Baltimore, I believe) and Sarah was from this area. They were married in Sunbury in 1874 but lived most of their lives in Shamokin Dam. Charles died in 1933 and Sarah in 1931. I have their wills and several deeds, including ones for Sarah Keen, several Millhoff's, John and Jacob Eshelman, Mary Moyer, and several other names, but cannot tie them all together yet. (These names were all new to me after a day at the courthouse in Middleburg last Thursday.) Can anyone shed any light for me? I have requested death certs. I suspect Sarah's mother's maiden name was Millhoff and I cannot tell if Keen was related or just close to the family. I'd also love to find out if my Charles Brown was related to the Browns that owned the cigar box factory (without my info right in front of me I forget if this was in the Middleburg or Freeburg area). Also, Charles' and Sarah's son, Arthur, married Daisy Wetzel, whose grandmother Lovina Clement was from the Clement family of Snyder and Northumberland counties. Thanks for any info! 2. Marty Graybill
    3. Hello there, Amelia Womer is my 3rd Great Grandmother, daughter of Daniel Womer/Wommer and Anne Maria Bergstrasser. Johann Bernhard Wommer was from Eitzweiler, Saarland Germany, arrived in PA in 30 Aug 1737 on the Ship "Samuel" wife, Anna Maria Hubing. His parents, Hans Jacob Wommer and Maria Elizabeth Blasius also came to PA, dying in 1746. Daniels father was Godfrey Womer son of Johann Bernhard, b. 31 January 1705 at Eitzweiler. Amelia ws b. 4 December 1808 at Mahantongo Township, Northumberland County, PA (later Snyder County) he married Thomas Graybill, b.21 January 1797 at Mahantongo Twp. Thomas and Amelia migrated to Iowa in 1841, later followed by her brother, Daniel who founded Womer, Kansas. Besides Daniel, parents Godfrey and unknown had Anthony Wommer, b. April 4 1774,Mary Elizabeth, b. 18 Feb. 1776, Jacob, b. about 1780, Henry, b. about 1784 and John, about 1793, Godfrey had a brother, Johann Michael, b. 8 November 1733 in Germany. Johann Michael m. Maria Barbara Spohn, they had a son, Henry, probably were other children as well I do not have. The Womers are mentioned in the "Annals of Buffalo Valley Pennsylvania" by Linn published 1877, reproduced of which I have a copy. the Graybills, Womers and Bergstressers were in the Rev War, the Northumberland County Militia I could send you my Womer file as a Word Doc if you'd like ? Goes back to Johann Jacob Wommer, b. abt 1615, Eitzweiler. Probably your Sally Womer is from another of Johann Bernhards sons ? I have incomplete sibling marriages though, mostly just my direct line. I do have a picture of Amelia Womer in my Family History book "History of a John Graybill Family in America" Second edition. There is also a Cousin working on a Womer Family History Book but I lost my email address's in a Hard Drive crash so have lost track of him. I do have copies of the Bergsträßer/Bergstresser Family history if you do connect to them ? I also have the book, "The Story of Snyder County" by Dunkelberger which does have an E. T. Lepley on pgs. 844, 846, E. T. Lepley was from the 1940s. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/wdB.2ACI/675.2 Message Board Post: Hi there - Magdelena Meyer Bickel was the wife of Henry Bickel, Jr., Mother of Jacob, Grandmother of Isaac. She was born in 1777 and died in 1866 and is buried in Penna. I will be visiting that area in two weeks and plan to take pictures at the cemetery. Jacob (1802-1884) was married to Sarah Bilger (1805-1886). Both are buried in Troxelville. I am related to them via my Mother's side. Her father, Charles (1877-1947), was the son of Jacob (1831-1910), son of Jacob (1802-1884), son of Henry (1779-1858), son of Heinrich (1748-1778), son of Tobias (1718-1791), son of Christopher (1682-1756), son of Johannes (1660-1740). The Troxelville Cemetery is the burial place of my Gr Grandfather and GG Grandfather. I didn't realize until recently that my GGG grandfather and GGG grandmother were also buried there. Have visited it several times over the years but didn't know the connection on the other names -- now need to take more photographs while they're still, I hope, readable. I understand that Isaac (1836-1869) and Susannah Knepp are also buried there, as well as some of their children. My Mother, 88, is still living and I'm taking her up to a reunion (her mother's side). I'm hoping to meet with some of her other cousins this trip and get some information before they too are gone. One that we planned to meet passed away two weeks ago at 94. We plan to spend an additional week just for research. Am searching out the resting place of Heinrich (killed by Indians) as well as the remains (still standing -- some on the historic register) of farms and homes to photograph.
