I don't know about 1878 but I had the same problem with a group of family all dying within a few weeks in 1898. I finally found out it was typhoid fever. I think there was a lot of that back then. This is strictly not a genealogy question but is certainly is related to it. Hello all, I have been trying to research a family from the Port Trevorton area recently and could use a little guidance. First off, in 1903 when someone had passed away, what newspaper would have covered the obituary for the area of Port Trevorton? The family I am researching is Adam GENSEMER whom had married a widow, Catharine about 1867. Catharine was previously married to a John STEPP who passed away around 1865. They had several children of whom 3 are known in 1880, Henry, Mary and John. In 1903 when Catharine passed away only John survived her from her first marriage. From Catharine's marriage to Adam GENSEMER there was only Susan Catharine who I know of. She was born about April 28, 1868 and on May 17, 1904 she married a Henry T. Moyer who was born about March 26,1863. This was Henry's second marriage. His wife of a previous marriage died on July 19,1901. If anyone can help on these families I'd really appreciate the help. Your help is needed in updating the current USGenWeb site for Snyder County, PA, at http://www.rootsweb.com/~pasnyder. Specifically, the website has gotten too large to update with ever changing email addresses for various sections and I plan on removing them and posting them to other areas of the USGenWeb project. I need your help in updating some email addresses before I move the submissions; email addresses attached to submissions that are not updated will be deleted entirely. Civil War soldiers will be moved to the Snyder County Message Board (http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.u sa.states.pennsylvania.counties.snyder) under military. Soldiers linked with an extinct email address of their submitter will be deleted and not moved. Family web sites will be updated but those with extinct URLs will be deleted. Lookups will be moved to the Snyder County Message Board under Lookups except for those submitters with extinct email addresses will be deleted. Obituaries will be moved to the Snyder County Message Board under Obituaries except those submitters with extinct email addresses will be deleted. Surnames will be moved to the Snyder County Message Board under Queries except those submitters with extinct email addresses will be deleted. If you can update any of these email addresses on these pages of the website, please contact me immediately. Deadline for updates will be 10 December 2002. Thanks for all of your help. I'm glad someone on the Clinton Counrt List made a reference to Stephen Miller's site. It piqued my curiosity, so I checked it out. Here is the address to a nice site on North Central Pennsylvania, with links to each county, as well as to special subjects. The site's strong point is a great collection of old postcards. http://www.ncpenn.com/ Stephen, I may have some additional post cards. Drop me a note if you're interested, and I'll e-mail you what I have. Also, your covered bridges link isn't working. Does anyone know of a site where photos of individual tombstones in Union County would fit in? Cemeteries is one category I didn't find on the above site. Enjoy this site! Anyone have any information on the GERMAN surname or the ZECHMAN / CECHMAN surname in Snyder or Unoin Counties. I would appreciated hearing from you. Thank you William German
This post is just to let you all know that I requested and have been granted administration of the new MANBECK-L surname mailing list on the RootsWeb server. The MANBECK list also serves those with variant spellings such as MONBECK, MANPECK, MONPECK and others. The line of interest to me settled in Berks County in the mid-1700's with one early line going to now Snyder County, and another line migrating to Union County. One generation later some moved to Juniata County and Mifflin County, all in Pennsylvania. To subscribe, click on mailto:MANBECK-L-request@rootsweb.com?Subject=subscribe. There are other instructions on the mailing list website at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/m/manbeck.html for subscribing to the digest (email collections) format. The Ancestry Message Board for MANBECK is also gatewayed to the mailing list. I'm searching the 1810 census for ancestors who may have lived in Beavertown in what is now Snyder County. If I have this straight, in 1810 Snyder Co. was part of Northumberland Co. Can anyone tell me which township of Northumberland Co. (1810) I might find the listing for residents of the Beavertown area? Thanks for any help. Per the publisher; "This is a collection of biographical notices of nearly 1,000 persons whose names appeared on tax or military rolls prior to 1800 in what is now Snyder County, Pennsylvania, which then consisted of parts of Cumberland, Northumberland, and Berks counties. The notices generally give the dates and places of the subject's birth and death; the names of his wife and children; references to immigration and migration, residence, occupation, real estate, and military service; and notations pertaining to the marriages and baptisms of other family members. The data, which are believed to represent a complete record of all people living in Snyder County prior to 1800, are based on Dr. Fisher's examinations of county court records, church records, tombstone inscriptions, state and federal archives, private papers, family histories, and printed books and pamphlets." http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1771492977
Hi, Just wanted to advise the list members I will be away from my email for about a week, maybe a little more as I am going to have surgery tomorrow (9/30). In my absence, Logan Garth Swanger (our Snyder County website master) has graciously agreed to watch over the list and to address any issues that may arise. I know the list has been fairly quiet over the Summer and into this Fall, with most of the activity happening on the message boards but I wanted to make sure everyone knows there is someone to turn to if you have any questions. Mr. Swanger can be reached at: L_Swanger@hotmail.com. As soon as I am able, I will sign on and let you know I'm back. Thanks! Vanessa PASnyder list Mom
