These don't cover 1835. As far as Snyder County is concerned they have the following: Volume I - Marriage records of Rev. Daniel WEISER in Selinsgrove from 1825-1833 Volume II - Marriages/Deaths from the Northumberland Republicaner from 1812-1817 Marriages/Deaths from the Nordwestlich Post from 1818-1822 Mike Ziegler -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of bch_rtr57x@earthlink.net Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2004 2:35 PM To: PASNYDER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PASNYDER-L] Re: Where would I find 1835 marriage info? According to blurb, it is a "collection of pastoral acts of various preachers as they traveled through Eastern Pennsylvania." It includes some pastoral records of people such as Daniel Weiser, Waldschmidt, Charles Zerbe, etc., and some announcements from papers in a number of counties, including Northumberland. I'm not suggesting that you buy the set, but a library near you might have it or be able to get it on interlibrary loan. Some of the larger regional LDS centers may have it. I haven't seen it so I don't know how well indexed it is or how much information it contains. I am not endorsing it. But it, or one like it, might have information about your people. Just a thought. I am looking for information on William Blythe from Cumberland County now Synder County. He was an Indian Trader in between 1740 to 1770. Any iformation on him would be appreciated. I have found information on his son Benjamin Blyth (Blythe) in Cumberland County but none on William Blyth (Blythe). I would like to find out who he married. I believe him to be my husband's grandfather. Being an Indian Trader I have read that he was either an Indian himself or probalbly married an Indian Maiden. Many Indian Traders did marry Indian maidens. Any help on how to locate information on him would greatly be appreciated. Thank you for your help. Joy Durrett Medford, Oregon

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wdB.2ACI/847.1 Message Board Post: Joe, There are no official records from that period. Pennsylvania counties didn't start keeping marriage records until the 1890s, with the exception of a brief period in the early 1850s. Records were kept by the individual churches or, in many cases, by the traveling pastors who served several communities. There are some compilations of marriage records available, but these are by no means comprehensive. Charles A. Fisher's Central Pennsylvania Marriages is based on early church records. George Wagenseller, a long-time newspaper publisher in the Snyder County area, published a compilation of marriage announcements that had appeared in the press called Snyder County Marriages 1835-1899 [your Werline marriage is not included]. More recently, some publishers have been putting together collections of marriage records, but these are still not complete. The LDS church has microfilmed the diaries of many of the pastors from that period, and you can view the films at local Family History! Centers around the country. But by and large they are not indexed, so you have to spend many hours squinting at the images to find specific information. Paid genealogy Web sites like ancestry.com and genealogy.com do have compilations of records, both on line and for sale on CD-ROM. These may be your best bet. But unless you can be specific about the church you're looking for, even these are hit and miss. Sorry, Richard Aurand Sherer

Have you come across a Rebecca DUCK, born between 1800-1810 and died 1 Aug 1849? She was the second wife of Ephraim SWANGER whom she married between 1838-1840. They had one child that I know of, Caroline Agnes SWANGER, born 7 Aug 1844. This is not my direct line as I descend from a child of Ephraim's first marriage to Sarah HOWELL, but information of the second wife might lead to something helpful. Thanks. Betty

Sandra, I think you will really enjoy the Snyder Co. Historical Society. We were there a couple of years ago and found the staff to be so willing and eager to help. It seems like it is only open certain days of the week, maybe two or three days, so check that out ahead of time. If you have a little extra time, drive east from Middleburg on Hwy 522 about 10 miles to Selinsgrove, go to the old downtown area and cross the little bridge to the Isle of Que, formerly called Weiserburg. (As I recall Pine St. leads to the bridge.) We spent a memorable afternoon walking along the banks of the Susquehanna River. It was lovely. I hope I have another opportunity to visit someday. Have a great trip. You will love the Snyder County Historical Society! Check on hours, etc., before you go, and plan to spend a LOT of time there. Also, the County Courthouse is just down the street on the square. It is small and they are very helpful, and they have all kinds of legal documents, obviously. I have spent DAYS in both places, and got TONS of info. Carol Busby

John is listed as 20 years old and a laborer. The next household is a David Mark, aged 25 and his family; I'm guessing another of John and Christiana's sons. This was at M432 - 831 - Page 114. In 1840, John Mark was still in Perry twp, Union County - M704 - 496 - Page 389. Lists males - 1 aged 40-50 (John),one 5-10, and one 10-15. Females - 1 aged 0-5, one aged 5-10, one aged 10-15, and one aged 30-40. I also think Benj F's father must have died early - I'm going to check my cemetery records and marriage records to see if I can find anything... Steve
