    3. VANCE / FELTY / KUHN Is anyone on this list, aware of a pattern of migration for these, or "any other", family's from the Snyder / Union County area, that went from here, to Tennessee, to the Schuyler / Hancock / Cass county area of Illinois? I find it quite a coincidence, that these names appear in both of these areas together, during various periods of time.

    3. I can't help you Jeff but I do have an open question for everyone on the list: I have ancestors who lived in the same area and they also moved to Elkhart. I know the farming in the Synder Co area is not the best. What strikes me is the "exodus" (?) to IN. Can anyone shed more light on this passage, or have I simply answered my own question, ie, farming was better in and around Elkhart. Thanks Geo Diehl -----Original Message----- From: JEFFREY S LONG <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, January 08, 1998 11:16 AM Subject: [PASNYDER-L] message Hi! 1. Trip to Middleburg
    2. Logan Garth Swanger
    3. Dear Mailing List Friends, I'll be making a trip to courthouse trip to Middleburg, Snyder County's seat, in mid-February to do some more research for the county PAGenWeb pages. If any of you need research done at the courthouse, let me know ASAP. I'll do some free quick research for you if I have the time, first come, first served. The kinds of research requests I am limiting myself to do (because of time) will be those that have the following qualifications: 1. One individual or family 2. One type of courthouse source (like probate, deeds, orphan's court, marriage, etc.) Your request will need to be terse and focused. Please don't try something like "All of the REICHs in the marriage records," because I won't have the time for it. If I don't find anything, I'll let you know what source I searched. You can then write it down in your research calendar. (As serious, organized genealogists, you are ALL keeping research calendars, aren't you?;) In genealogy, it's just as important to know where something is not as it is where something is. Also, this search is limited to the courthouse, so don't ask me to search cemeteries (although I will do lookups in a source I have), churches, family genealogies, local histories, etc. Check the lookup page on the Snyder County PAGenWeb site for people who will do that. If photocopying is involved, I'll just e-mail you the source when I return home and you can contact the courthouse directly with the source location I find for you. You can then pay them directly; I don't want to touch anyone's money at this point, nor do I have a lot of discretionary funds to pay for photocopies myself up front and wait for a reimbursement from you. Are we straight on all of that? Okay, let me know what you need and I'll try to oblige. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Logan Garth Swanger Williamsport PA Snyder County PAGenWeb Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~pasnyder/index.htm PASNYDER-L Mailing List Owner & Moderator E-mail: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    3. Good morning everyone... This list has been incredible and thank you to everyone I've been working with... including a few new cousins! I'm seriously wondering if *everyone* in Snyder Co. is related... methinks the answer might be yes according to the replies I've gotten. Today's question is this... is anyone working with the Peter DECKER or Daniel KUHNS families? Peter DECKER was married to Magdelena Schwartz and later to Catherine Felty (possibly Catherine GILBERT FELTY) after he became a widower. Their daughter Amelia married Daniel KUHNS. Daniel's parents were Christian and Catherine KUHNS. 3. >Logan - Do you know why the cemetery's name was changed from >Sieber's/Zieber's? And when? This is very interesting. Barb Obviously the cemetery, connected with Saint Peter's Lutheran & Reformed Church south of Globe Mills (actually next to the cemetery; the building no longer exists) took the same nickname as the church because of the prominence of the SEIBER/ZIEBER family which worshiped there. There are some buried in the cemetery there as you may well know. Churches in Snyder County (and their adjoining cemeteries) were often known not by their ecclesiastical names but by the name of a prominent family attending there. I think I need to get a church page up on the Snyder County PAGenWeb site with the church names and their alternatives. Does anyone out there on the mailing list think this would be helpful? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Logan Garth Swanger Williamsport PA Snyder County PAGenWeb Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~pasnyder/index.htm PASNYDER-L Mailing List Owner & Moderator E-mail: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. Introduction
    2. Ken Boonie
    3. Hello to all you Snyder county rooters, My name is Ken Boonie and I have many ancestors from the Snyder county area. Most are in the McClure area, but are scattered about. I am trying my best to find all of them. I feel confident that lists such as this will provide vital information to all of us. There are several variations to the Boonie name. Those which I have discovered are Boonie, Booney, Boney and Bony. My gggrandfather was Christian Boonie who was married to Louise Clementine Bingamen. Just today, I was given info on Louise's parents, Frederic and Elizabeth (Heetig) Bingamen. I will need some help with this. If anyone knows Louises' siblings, I would be very grateful. Christians' parents were Israel Boney and Mary (Warner) Boney. I have been informed that Mary's last name could have been Varner. I need some help with that as well. I know nothing of her except she was b. 12/10/1830. Israel was the son of Christian Boney, b. 12/4/1789, and Julia Keiser, b. 1791. I have siblings of Christian, but nothing on Julia. Christian was the son of Christopher Bony, b. ??, and Eva Humlin or Hummel. Originally, I was told Hummel, but according to FTM cd Church Records: Selected areas of PA, it was Eva Humlin. I have this cd and will be more than happy to do lookups. I also have FTM World Family Tree, Volumes 1&2 and Social Security Death Index, cd 110. I will do lookups on all. I am a resident of Huntingdon, Huntingdon county and maintain the Huntingdon County page of the US GenWeb project. That about sums it up. Hope I didn't bend your ear too much. Already, from this list I have been fortunate to find information (thanks, Kathy) and look forward to helping all I can to make this list benefit everyone as it has me. Looking forward to talking to you all. -- Ken Boonie Coordinator USGenWeb Project Huntingdon County PA http://www.rootsweb.com/~pahuntin/

Kathy, I might be able to help you out with the KRATZER line as I am working on a comprehensive genealogy of the family in Snyder County. However, I do not have Peter and Susan listed anywhere in my database except as burials in Evergreen Cemetery, Freeburg, as you already indicated. I can give you a lead. Since both Peter and Susan died after 1905 when central death registration in Pennsylvania commenced, you may be able to get some clues by sending to New Castle for a copy of their death certificate at $3 each. The certificate has indicated on it empty boxes for place and date of birth, parentage, date and place and cause of death, undertaker, and date and place of burial and name of spouse and whether or not he/she survived the person. The quality of the birth and parentage information on the death certificate varies as it is based on the veracity of the one providing the information for the certificate (the informant, usually a spouse or a child). Birth and parentage information on a death certificate is usually far removed from that event and therefore qualifies as secondary source material, but it is still very helpful for clues to further research. If you choose this route, let me know what information you get so I can update and add to my database.

    2. Kathy
    3. I know this is probably a long shot since even the LDS center said these people appear to be ghosts, but they're my gg grandpas and I know better. Does any one have either of these people in any research? John WILL was born 21 May 1817, supposedly in N. Germany. It is said that he came to America at age 6 months. I realize that the name most likely would have been Johann or one of the alternate spellings. John died 12 Jul 1890 and is buried at Samuel's Cemetery, McClure. His first wife's name was Mary Ann (?) born 30 Nov 1821 and died 21 Jan 1858. She's buried at Black Oak Ridge Cemetery, Beaver Springs. John later married Leah PETERS. My other elusive ancestor is Peter KRATZER. Born 22 June 1848, died 11 Nov 1912.. married Susan WERTZ, born 1 Dec 1848, died 27 Sept 1911. Both buried Evergreen Cemetery, Freeburg. What I can't find for either of these people is the names of their parents. A thank you in advance to anyone who might be able to shed some light on this. **Kathy Please reply to -----> [email protected] <-----
