URGENT REQUEST!: Now that we are over the holidays, This years is our 350th Anniversary of the landing of the Swartwout family in North America. The name has many variations such as Swarthout, Swartout, Swartwood, Swathwood, Swarthwood etc. We need help in gather lines, pictures, articles, wills, what ever you have stashed in your attic. We would really appreciated it if you shared with us what you had, there a literally thousands of us here looking for our roots, looking for connections. For our 350th Anniversary we need to updated our list of folks out there that are descendants somewhere along the line of any of those variations. We also have a family newsletter that cost only $5.00 per year, a real bargain. Just send it your mailing address. Every day I get e-mail asking me for help. Up here in Canada, there were two brothers that had huge families, all the remains of their descendants are the female sides. All the male went back to the States. I'm am the maintainer of "The Updated Swartwout Chronicles" People submit their lines-ged-coms etc. and I just drop them into the data base. It is everyone's database. Each person is responsible for their own submissions. It is not copyrighted. Kathy kathyhoeldke@sympatico.ca ldyk@hotmail.ca

Lesher mentioned was my GGGrandfather, married to Sarah J. Van Kirk. They had 13 children and lived on Blue Hill, north of Selinsgrove across the river from Sunbury. Daniel came to the county from Point Twp., Northumberland. Their 5th son James Bryon Lesher was an early settler of Grand Island, Nebraska. Their 7th son was Joseph G. Lesher the long time publisher/editor of The Selinsgrove Times. Tenth son Gordon lived at Shamokin Dam. This Lesher family came to Philiadelphia in 1734 from Germany on the ship "Hope". There were unrelated Lesher families in Union/Snyder county at this time period. As yet, I have found no relationship between Daniel and Elias. Freeburg is south of Selinsgrove and I wonder if the Lesher family you're researching may have come up from Lancaster? Keep us posted on your progress, It'd be interesting if a tied were found.

He is listed as the son of an Elias Lesher, age 26, and Elizabeth, age 23. There are siblings listed: Alice age 5 and John age 3/12. There was another Lesher family in Snyder County at that time headed by a Daniel Lesher. He also had a son named James but that James was 8 years old in 1860; probably too old to be yours. I am wondering if your marriage date is off as you said James and Eleanor were married in 1860 yet he was born in 1857? I'm not related to this family at all but can help with census lookups as long as they're indexed online. Vanessa - PASnyder list mom

Shirley, Shirley, Shirley......don't believe everything you read on the web or in emails from 'friends.' This hoax has been going around for so long, I thought it had died out but obviously has arisen from the dead. Always verify a virus before you take action. Do you have an Anti-virus program? If you do, it would have alerted you a long time ago. If you don't have a program, get it! If you need a fix for the deleted file, let me know and I'll send it to you.
