The regiment took part in several expeditions down the Atlantic coast to North and South Carolina, also in the Peninsular Campaign. At the Battle of Antietam this regiment lost nearly one-third of its men. After the war Mr. Knecht returned to Pottsville, and took up the pursuit of his trade. He also leaves one brother and one sister; August Knecht and Mrs. Ignatius Glaser, both of Pottsville. He was born in Germany coming to this country with his parents in 1874 and settling in Pottsville and in 1877 moving to Tower City. Later he was married to Miss Pauline Eisenstake of Mechanicsville, who died four years ago. He was a member of Sts.
