I have tracked my GG grandfather's brother to Pottsville in the second half of the 19th century. Crawford Fullarton GLOVER was born in Ayrshire, Scotland in 1824. He was a sea captain and I have found mention of him in a history of the Yuengling Brewery as follows: " Each saloon apparently had its own peculiarity, the strongest example undoubtedly a caged bird that once lived in "Billy" Soell's saloon on Pottsville's North Centre Street: 'The big green parrot, swinging in its cage, in the barroom for years shrieked anathemas and profanity, day and night. Its vocabulary was most remarkable for a bird, and vied with the most notorious of human trouble-makers in the town. The parrot was brought here and given to SOELL by Captain Crawford F. GLOVER, Scotch commander of a sailing vessel....The precocious bird lived to good old age' " I have found GLOVER in the1870 US Census and he appears to have a wife, Elizabeth. My GG grandfather was 4 years younger than Crawford and came to the Australian Gold Rush C1850, later going to the gold in New Zealand. Whether they ever contacted each other after leaving Scotland I do not know. I am seeking any information on Glover and his family in Pennsylvania.
