    3. Dear Jan, Now you are getting into my childhood . . . Tamaqua RD is where I attended a one room school for 4th, 5th and 6th grades! I believe the Benjamin Brobst you speak of (below) is Benjamin Kistler Brobst of Albany Twp., Berks County, PA . . . just over the Blue Mountain (South of Tamaqua). This is the same area where my HENDRICKS ancestors settled in the late 1700's. Tamaqua did / does have Lutheran Churches. This Benjamin was baptised in the Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Stoney Run, Albany Twp., Berks Co., Pennsylvania in July 1832 (not Tamaqua but just a half-day buggy ride over the mountain). Is there also a Lutheran Ch in Tamaqua? And Methodist? My gr-grandfather Benjamin BROBST lived in Tamaqua in the 1870s, and I don't know what religion he was, though some of the family had turned Methodist. JRBinkley Oxford PA

    3. I have an article from the local newspaper that says that the German Lutheran church on Dutch Hill was formed in 1835 and the log church building was built in 1837. In 1855 they replaced it with a brick building. Dutch Hill is in Tamaqua I can see it from my house. It is a big hill. It was also called the union church. It was used by the German and the Reformed churchs. The way I understnd it they were two versions of the Lutheran church. Some of my husbands family are buried in its cemetery which still exists. I have taken pictures of graves in there. The church split 4 ways but St. John which was the last to go took the brick from the old church and built a new church on the corner of Pine and East Mauch Chunk. They still use the original bell and it is rung every Sunday and can be heard all over town. Glee Krapf ----- Original Message ----- From: "J.S.
