I'm posting this here because it appears that the Bensinger family site at StoneCabin is defunct, not updated since 1997, and the Bensinger surname list isn't active either. For those descended from the first Bensinger to arrive in Pennsylvania, I'd like to share what I recently found. At the Berks County courthouse there's a deed that transferred fifty acres from Jacob Bensinger to Anthony Bentzinger. Anthony paid Jacob 100 pounds lawful money. Jacob is described as the son of Anthony and the land was near Bolsandy (?) Creek, "over the Blue Mountains in Brunswick Township." The land sale was dated August 11, 1777, and on August 21, 1777, Anthony Bentzinger appeared before a Berks County justice of the peace to sign or place his mark. Bensinger descendents claim that Antonius/Anthony was born in 1720 and arrived in 1743. What I haven't been able to find is a date of death. He apparently left no will. At least this deed shows that Antonius was alive in 1777 and might have moved from Richmond Township to Brunswick where his sons owned farms. Another indication that he was alive in 1777 is the oath of allegiance list signed in Berks County on August 12, 1777, includes the name of "Anthon" Bensinger. It appears Antonius never paid taxes on the Brunswick Township land possibly because he died shortly after he purchased it.
