    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: tipkendundot Surnames: McGeachen, McGeehan, Craig Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.schuylkill/11382/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, For several years my cousin and I have been researching our grandfathers' family (they were brothers). They spelled the last name "McGeachen". Last month, I obtained my grandfather's birth cert from the state of NJ. It shows his father's name as McGEEHAN, a surprise to us. I wonder if there was any connection between our families.... My cousin found our great-great-grandfather and his wife in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Their last name was spelled McGeachen, but information prior to that showed various spellings for the name. We haven't found where our great-grandfather entered the US, but do know that he and our great-grandmother were born in Scotland, and are found on US Census records after 1880, raised their family in New Jersey, and are buried in the Newark NJ cemetery. Our family website is http://groups.msn.com/MyMcGeachenFamily. Visitors are always welcome! If anyone has more information on this branch, please reply. Birth Certificate information follows: Full name of child (was left blank, but this is clearly my grandfather's birth certificate; his name was Thomas McGeachen) Color: white Date of Birth: July 18, 1894 Sex: Male Place of Birth: 150 Ridge St., Newark, NJ Name of Father: Thomas McGeehan (note spelling) Maiden name of Mother: Agnes Craig Country of Father's birth: Scotland Age: 37 Occupation: Mason Country of Mother's birth: Scotland Age: 34 Number of children in all by this marraige: 4 Living: 4 Name and PO address of Medical Attendant, in own handwriting, with date: Hard to decipher, but appears to be Hon. Alex Judson, 270 1/2 (illegible), July 18, 1894. Next I need to find out if 150 Ridge St. was their residence (probable) or not. New info to me: Father's occupation, actual age in 1894, and spelling of his last name. This gives his birth year as 1857 if I'm adding right. Obtained by writing Bureau of Vital Statistics, State of NJ. I look forward to hearing from you! Meg Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
