It is entirely possible that these 2 families intermarried. I have been trying to make sense of the census material from 1790 to 1840. Due to the changes in county names, I'm not sure what corresponded to West Penn prior to 1810. The 1810 census for West Penn records John Shoemaker (married, with 5 sons and 1 daughter), John Zimmerman (married, with 2 sons and 2 daughters), Paul Zimmerman (1 male&female 45 ,1 male 26-44, 1 male/2 females 16-25, 1 male 10-15), Jacob Zimmerman (married, 4 sons, 3 daughters). I also found a land purchase for John Shoemaker on 8/30/1792 in Northampton, PA. So far, I have not come across any Zimmerman purchases. The only other bit of information I have about Mary Isabella (daughter of Cordilla Zimmerman) is that she was very short.
