Hello List. I am a new subscriber to your List, a family historian based in the UK. Was there a census taken for Schuylkill County in 1890? I have found my ancestors Edward & Casey Edwards with their family on the 1870 and 1880 censii, living at South Cass T/ship and the West Ward of Minerville in 1870 and 1880 respectively. Good old "Ancestry.com" popped them out but nothing for 1890. I would be grateful for any information on the present whereabouts of the 1890 census. Many thanks. Dorothy H. [UK]
Dorothy, The bulk of the 1890 Federal Census went up in smoke and flames when there was a fire in the building in which they were stored. Only a handful of records were saved. So now, like many of us on this side of the pond, there is a gapping hole in your family's history due to fire. On occasion, counties have reconstructed the 1890 census, but this is not a wide spread circumstance or occurrence. What part of the UK are you located in? I have a business client in Rugby, and have been to Birmingham on occasion as well.
