In the 1880 census, my g-g-grandfather Daniel has left the family farm and is now next to Abraham Zimmerman age 58 and his wife Sarah, Moses his brother age 57, Noah age 49, his wife Angelina age 34, and two children. Abraham, Moses, and Noah look to be Christina's children (some of the neighbors match up from decade to decade on the censuses). If you check the landowners' map of West Penn in 1875, you'll find A. Zimmerman right on the border of Districts 3 and 4. It's not far from where my Daniel grew up, which was in District 3 on the map and is labeled Mrs. Zimmerman. I'm fortunate to live about 70 miles from West Penn Township, and know the main roads well. The area is still very rural. Comparing the 1875 map with modern road maps shows that little has changed (try Google Maps; the zoom-ins are great). You want to look for the intersection of Rtes. 309 and 895, which is near modern-day Snyders. If you follow 895 west f! rom 309, you'll see a parallel road called Blue Mountain Drive to the south. The A. Zimmerman farm must have been on Blue Mountain Drive. I've been to Zion Stone Church in Snyders twice to walk the cemetery, and have so far found Joseph and Polly Zimmerman, Thomas and Sally Zimmerman, Jonas and Mary Zimmerman, William (Daniel's brother) and Sarah Zimmerman, Howard Zimmerman, Alfred and Kate Zimmerman, Wilmer and Meta Zimmerman, Frank and Mary Zimmerman, and Allen and Elizabeth Zimmerman. The cemetery is very old and some of the stones are impossible to read. No one was at the church both times I visited, or I'd have inquired about records. The Pottsville Public Library has partial records for Zion, including baptisms, confirmations, and burials. I found Priscilla and Susanna Zimmerman in the confirmation lists for the Reformed congregation; those records begin in 1857. There were a few other Zimmermans that I didn't write down as I was short for time. The death reco! rds only run from 1876-1914. I think I copied down all the listed Zim merman burials, I have 10 names including Abraham Zimmerman 9/21/1821-10/29/1897 and Sarah Zimmerman 12/7/1824-1/14/1890. Maybe they are your people? I plan to return to both the church and the library at some point in the future. Let me know if there's something I can research for you.
