Kathy, Part of my wife's family descends from Michael Flaherty and Bridget Walsh. Both were born about 1830 in County Galway. They probably arrived in Baltimore during the late 1850s. They had a child in Ireland and some of their children were born in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. I did find another Flaherty in Virginia, whom they might have stayed with for a time. If so, the family was split up for the 1860 census, as I haven't been able to locate all of them. In 1867 they had a son born in Columbia, PA. By the 1870 census, they were in Raven Run, where they lived out their remaining years. I wouldn't be surprised to find Michael was an older brother or uncle to your ancestors. I have no listing for an Edward Flaherty. I can provide additional data and information if you are interested.
