I will look into the BlackWoods possibility. Thank You. Unfortunately the Mary that I am looking for died at 13 months of age while crossing the plains. Were the mines a common stop for emigrants coming to America from England? The Marsden family that I am looking for came from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England. They traveled with the Ira Eldridge Emigrating Company in 1861. Utah Census records confirm that James(2nd child) was born in Pennsylvania. The information that I have on this family is as follows: Husband: James Marsden born 26 Oct 1827 in Old Brampton, Derbyshire, England; died 30 May 1886 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah Wife: Ann Eliza Calodine born 17 Jul 1826 in Rotherham, York, England; died 16 Aug 1877 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah Children: 1. Charles Thomas Marsden: born 31 Jan 1851 (1854?)in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England; died 3 September 1923 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada 2. James Marsden: born 20 Aug 1857 in Black Hills Minersville, Scoubh, PA; died 4 Nov 1921 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, UT 3. Mary Eliza Marsden: born 1 July 1860 in Black Hills Minersville, Scoubh, PA; died 4 Aug 1861 near Ash Hollow (while crossing the plains) 4. Emma Ellen Marsden: born 30 Sep 1863 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah; died 24 Apr 1913 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah 5. Jarvis Bostwick Marsden: born 25 Jan 1865 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah; died 28 Jan 1902 6. Amos Hyrum Marsden: born 24 December 1866 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah; died 30 July 1931 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah 7. Matthew Sewell Marsden: born 19 Sep 1870 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah; died as a child 1860 census information lists the family on the 5th Day of July 1860 as living in Cass Township, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania. In addtion to James Marsden (age 33), Eliza Marsden (age 32), Charles (age 6), James (age 3), & Mary (age 1/12th) there is an Elizabeth (age 18). I do not have any siblings of James or Eliza that fit that age. Is it possible that Black Hills could be part of Cass Township? Thank You for all your help! Best Wishes, James Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
