Author: RichardMReese Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.schuylkill/12340.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Women very rarely became naturalized citizens before 1918; The only benefit being the right to vote, which they did not have. If a cenus records lists her as naturalized, it is either a mistake, or it was because she was a minor child when her father became a citizen. I am researching the Schmauchs as well. My husband's family can be traced back to Luzerne County. His great-grandfather is Leonard J. Schmauch (1878-1933). According to Leonard's obituary, he was a native of Hazleton, PA. Leonard was married to Christine Pfanstiel (1878 - 1976). Leonard and Christine had 3 children: George L. Schmauch (1902 - 1960), married to Grace Atwell (1911 - ?); Thelma G. Schmauch (1904 - 1961) married to Lawrence Rennie (1911 - ?); and Dorothy E. Schmauch (1911 - 1992), married to Arthur Herbert Horst (1908 - 1984). I cannot find any information (ie, parents, siblings) on Leonard's family. Is there any chance my Schmauch family is related to yours? I would appreciate any help. Thank you! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
