I will have to delve into these various options. I just spoke with three living cousins today from that side of the family and now I'm more confused than ever. The person I'm seeking was the son of my gr-grandfather, a lifelong miner, so that is good to know. Thanks for all your suggestions! My grandmother is a Tiley from Ashland, but I am pretty sure all the Tileys in Schuylkill County are descended from Samuel (born 1789 in England) and Mercy ( nee Codrington born 1793 in England) Tiley. They arrived in New York April of 1842 and were in Pottsville by 1845 when Samuel died. They had 13 children, most of whom survived to also have lots more children. I think you are saying that you are named after your great uncle Edwin Tiley? If so, I have two Edwin Tileys in my tree. I have an Edwin Tiley born 1881 to John W. (b.1847) and Louisa (b. Probst 1851) Tiley. John was a grandson of Samuel and Mercy through Joseph Tiley (b. 1820) and Christine Hodge (b. 1827). I am descended from Joseph and his second wife. I also have an Edwin Tiley born 1907 to John (b. 1875) and Beula (b. Paul 1885) Tiley. This 1875 John was a brother of 1881 Edwin, which makes this Edwin a great-grandson of Samuel and Mercy through Joseph and Christine. So if I am understanding you correctly, we would be much more distant cousins than 2nd! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. She is listed as a widow and born in 1929. She is also identified as the grandmother of my ggg-grandfather Thomas Woods. I do not have any definitive information about his parents, but I have another record which may help if he is indeed descended from a Carl, and if it is even the same Thomas Woods on the record (I am unsure of that as well) - see the attached 1870 record from Ashland, Schuylkill - which shows a Thomas Woods living with some Brownlees/Brounteys and Tolens/Tobins Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My mother's family is from Ashland, and her grandfather worked in the hospital for many years. I would suggest visiting the Ashland Public Library. They have some hyper-local resources not available at either Schuykill Court House or Schuykill Historical Society. You can get a non-resident Library card for a minimal fee.
