Please be aware that copies of the Record American are NOT available for viewing. ================================= NEWSPAPER PROJECT...VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Message List Reply | Forward Message #5209 of 5294 < Prev | Next > As many of you know the Mahanoy City Public Library is going to undertake the project of digitalizing the old copies of the Tribune and Record American newspapers. The old newspapers from the Record American need to be moved from the Shenandoah Evening Herald Office to the Mahanoy City Public Library. The first step of the move is to move the ledgers from the third floor storage area to an place of easier access. Volunteers are needed to help move the ledgers from the third to first floor of the Herald's office. Another move will be schedule to actually move them to the library. The ledgers are VERY fragile and must be handled with care. If you are an able bodied male who can give a few hours of your time, please contact Tom Ward at 570-467-3476...leave a message on the answering machine if he isn't at home. Tom will give you the details as to date/time/place of where you will be volunteering. The papers are being moved so they can be digitalized...THEY WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC VIEW UNTIL THAT PROCESS IS COMPLETED so please do not start calling the library asking to view the papers or for a lookup. They do not have the volunteers to assist you at this time. Many thanks for your help... Shirley Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We have done extensive research on the SEITZINGER family, but the only "Fay Seitzingers" we have are the following: Fay Lawson Seitzinger b 1908 (Male) Faye Alvania Seitzinger b 1910 (Female) Are either of these people in someone's tree? Springs in July to check out some family burial plots. Most of them are in Christ Church Cemetery and I believe one section of it is for the Seitzinger family. When I was there before I wasn't interested but since then I found there is a Fay Seitzinger connected to our family. At this time I am not sure how. Where do you live? Are you interested in pictures? Possibly we can take some for you while we are there. I am related to the Heffner family. They resided in Girardville. Hello Listers: I'm looking for the death date for Catharine/Kathryn/Kate Purcell so I can obtain a death cert for her. I only know she was still alive in the 1930 census living with her daughter and son-in-law Mary (Grist) and Frank Derr in Pottsville. The birth date I have for her is 26 Dec. 1866 however, I have seen other year dates ranging from 1861 to 1873. She was born in London, England and married in Schuylkill in 1891 to George Grist. He died and she married Denis Toomey in 1904 and James F. Purcell in the1911-1930 time frame - have requested record). Appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks very much. Sheila K.
Hi! I am looking for information on a John Holland Sr. He is said to have opened the "Hartford" Colliery, once called the "Baldwin"s" in Mahonoy City, PA. I don't know if he was an investor, the owner or part of an investor group. Is there a source dealing with the history of the Collieries that might provide information about him. He may be related to a William E. Holland, bon abt. 1874 in Schuyhill Haven, PA. Any help appreciated, Donna M. Wolf

This message is being cross posted so you may received duplicate messages. There are no 'easy' research methods for locating your ancestors but there are 3 research sites that cover a good part of Northeastern Pennsylvania that will serve you. The managers of the three list...Elaine and Deb, Tom, and myself...are more than welling to help you with your search and we have decided the best way to do that is to have the three lists work together. Elaine's message below gives a brief description of what each of the Yahoo sites offer in the way of research for the Northeast PA sectors of Schuylkill, Columbia, Luzerne, and other counties surrounding these three. As Elaine mentions in her opening statement..."our ancestors moved around" and so must you if you expect to find them. Good searching... Shirley 1. Local Research Sources Posted by: "Elaine LaGreca" Date: Fri Jun 15, 2007 3:31 am ((PDT)) Group The Home Page at NePa Ancestors starts with these two sentences. "Welcome to NePa Ancestors. Many of our stalwart Northeastern Pennsylvania ancestors were born in one county, wed in another, raised children in another county, and may have died in yet another county." This statement is so very true! Each Yahoo Group develops its own uniqueness.NePa Ancestors finds census and ship passenger arrivals and has developed the Coal Mining Accident Database. "Mahanoy City Township" and the "Centralia" sites posts current news happenings, articles on history, surname data base, photos and obituaries.
