I've been able to trace it back (with help) to Adam Mengel that was born 8-9-1752 and died 3-16-1843 in west brunswick township, Schuylkill County, PA. I have his fathers name as Frederick Mengel but don't know who he married, when he was born, his parents, etc. Frederick had a brother whose name was Adam as well. He was born in 1719 and died in 1799. I have no other info about their history and was wondering if you could help out. I'm pretty sure they came over from Germany at one point, but don't know when. Would you know of anyway to check different countries records from the 1700's? Thanks for anything you can do for me in advance. Israel Hein married Mary Hendricks, I descend from their son William who moved eventually to South Bethlehem, PA. Some of the family remains in that area today. >From Lutheran Church records I have that Joel Hein (1842-1897) married to Phoebe Krebs (b. 1852) who were the parents of Lewis b. 1882, Charles b. 1888, Esther b. 1896, Phoebe b. 1892, and H.Edith (no date). So is this the same family or were there earlier children born to this couple? Phoebe would have been very young to have children born in 1867 and 1868. Hi, If anyone is researching the surname MINNICK on this list you may be interested is some pictures I just saw at a shop. There is a place on Rt 443 near Suedburg/Pine Grove that is called The Basket Shop/The Basket Store or something very similar. It sits right along the road and has all sorts of items for sale out on the porch. I was just there this weekend and in the back of the store there were lots of pictures of folks who had the surname of MINNICK. Many of them had the full names on them. Some of them were taken by a studio in Pottsville but I don't remember the name. Some pictures were not marked at all but perhaps they came from an estate or something. Just thought that there might be someone who would be interested in them. It's a shame to see them just lay in the corner. If you have any questions about the location of the shop, please email me directly. I do not know any of the given names on the photos nor anything else about them. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Got a little couch potato? I imagine you are familiar with it and have the data. Here's my theory though... There was no son "David" 1874-100 I feel this is a mistaken entry for the father David. The birth shoudl read 1833 or 34... but it was carved wrong. A son David 1874 never makes the census.. and in 1880 he'd have to be with the family as a 6 year old.. even in 1890 when he'd be 16 and most likely with the family in Turkey Run. Finally, sister Margarert is born in 1874, so unless there was a twin brother, David, who never shows up in the census records as a child... then I feel the more likley situaion is the Father is buried here with the mother... In 1888, 1890 and 1900 when Benjamin and the parents had died, they may not have been able to afford a stone, perhaps a temporary marker was placed there. .... the permanent stone may not have been placed till much later.. even 1948 with the death of your Mary Mathias Howells. Anyway, I added the death dates to my file on FTM and corrected the assumption of a brother David which I feel you probably made from seeing this stone. I did it for you Thursday and found nothing. Up in St. Michael's, I did find Max and Pearl Kozar, and also a large stone with many Kosar death dates, seems the parents were Maxim and Anna with Steven, George (his wife Isabelel) and John (with wife Anna). I'm assuming they are Pearl's in-laws. If you need the years, let me know. No death in 1900 slab for John Klich or anything resembling the name. Then up to St. Stephen's.. and again nothing. I was not too optimistic. I was even wondering if St. Stephen's which opened as a Parish in 1899 was buring people in this cemetery in 1900,,,his death may have predated the cemetery. My gut feeling is that John Klich was buried without a stone by a young widow who could not afford one at the time. A rather typical practive for these dirt poor immigrants.
