    3. Barbara, Something else to keep in mind if this soldier is buried in the Netherlands and was killed in action in the Netherlands, it is likely he was in the Airborne Troops, as these are about the only US troops that fought in Holland. Would likely be either the 82nd, or more likely the 101st Airborne. This might give you another place to look. 3. Would someone who has access to Ancestry.com do a look up for a man in the Netherlands who is tending American graves? Dutch citizens volunteer to oversee soldiers' graves in the U.S. cemetery and now this person would like to find descendents of these men to contact them and find out more about them. He is Maurice Schaafstra and one of the graves under his care is that of Albert Kedell. I did find out that Albert was born in 1918 and was not married. His father never saw him because he left for World War I before he was born and was killed or died of disease such as the flu before the end of the war. The father's grave is in an American cemetery that is probably less than 100 miles from where Albert lies. Albert's mother Veronica who lived in Minersville, Pa., in 1920, remarried during the 1920s but Albert and his brother John kept the surname of Kedell. Will someone look at the 1930 Pa. census (search for Albert Kedell) to see who Veronica married and the names of any of Albert's half brothers or sisters? I do know his brother died in the late 1990s in Elizabethtown, Pa. (found that using rootsweb's SSDI). There might be nephews that Maurice could contact to learn more about this American soldier. Thanks. Barbara Welch

Author: cobyrne169 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.schuylkill/11364/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I can't wait to see this. I thought some others might feel the same. There's a photo of a bit of the tunnel with the article. I have no personal connection to the owners of the business. >From http://www.wnep.com 9/19/2007 Schuylkill County History Comes Alive Tuesday, September 18, UDPATED: 5:02 p.m. By Bob Reynolds A couple in Schuylkill County is using a piece of uncovered history to help build their business. A recently-discovered secret tunnel is thought to be part of the bloody history of our area's coal heritage. This tunnel was discovered when the new owners of an old building in St. Clair remodeled. They believe it was used by the Molly McGuires. Not much has changed over the last 141 years at the building near St. Clair. The exterior looks basically the same today as it did when it was first occupied in 1866. Now it's a bar and restaurant owned by Jim and Jessica Croley. They plan to double the size of the place and will use history to attract customers. "We have a lot of people coming in and asking about it and they're real interested in seeing what's down here," said Jessica Croley, owner of The Wooden Keg Tavern. To get deep into the history of the place, you have to go downstairs. There you will see what was once a secret tunnel. Some believe it was used by the Molly McGuires. According to historians, the McGuires were a group of Irish miners who fought against cruel mine owners with sabotage and murder. They were hanged for their crimes. It's believed the group would hold meetings in "It was a way to transport alcohol easier and it was a great way for the Molly McGuires to escape from authority if need be, undetected," explained owner Jim Croley. The Croleys want to turn the so-called tunnel room into a museum of sorts so people can dine and relive the area's past. "The public is going to have access it, limited access. Along with the tunnel there are going to be things to read, anthracite coal maps and a lot of things to discuss," Jim Croley said. The renovations continue and the owners hope those renovations will be done and the tunnel open to public inspection by Halloween.
