Dan of Pennsylvania, USA ----------------------- PRIOR POST ------------------------ Goof afternoon, I am looking for some information on the Descendants of the Passangers of the Mayflower. Specifically, the son of John Alden, John was married to an Elizabeth Phillips. I am looking for their Descendants and any information on Elizabeth. I have a whole line of Phillips in early Colonial America plus my Grandmother used to tell us that her family came over on the Mayflower, this is the first clue I have had of a possible connection. If there is anyone with any ideas as to where I can look I would greatly appreciate it. They spelled the last name "McGeachen". Last month, I obtained my grandfather's birth cert from the state of NJ. It shows his father's name as McGEEHAN, a surprise to us. I wonder if there was any connection between our families.... My cousin found our great-great-grandfather and his wife in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Their last name was spelled McGeachen, but information prior to that showed various spellings for the name. We haven't found where our great-grandfather entered the US, but do know that he and our great-grandmother were born in Scotland, and are found on US Census records after 1880, raised their family in New Jersey, and are buried in the Newark NJ cemetery. Our family website is http://groups.msn.com/MyMcGeachenFamily. Visitors are always welcome! If anyone has more information on this branch, please reply. Birth Certificate information follows: Full name of child (was left blank, but this is clearly my grandfather's birth certificate; his name was Thomas McGeachen) Color: white Date of Birth: July 18, 1894 Sex: Male Place of Birth: 150 Ridge St., Newark, NJ Name of Father: Thomas McGeehan (note spelling) Maiden name of Mother: Agnes Craig Country of Father's birth: Scotland Age: 37 Occupation: Mason Country of Mother's birth: Scotland Age: 34 Number of children in all by this marraige: 4 Living: 4 Name and PO address of Medical Attendant, in own handwriting, with date: Hard to decipher, but appears to be Hon. Alex Judson, 270 1/2 (illegible), July 18, 1894. Next I need to find out if 150 Ridge St. was their residence (probable) or not. New info to me: Father's occupation, actual age in 1894, and spelling of his last name. This gives his birth year as 1857 if I'm adding right. Obtained by writing Bureau of Vital Statistics, State of NJ. I look forward to hearing from you! Meg Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [PASCHUYL] More on Miller/Dunleavy/Geist/Williams
    2. Sarah quinn
    3. Karen, I got an Email from a "Genealogy cuzsn" Peggy, very informative, which may shed a bit of light --or make us more confused. In 1890 directory there was a child to Wendel Miller-- Ida Irene Miller, sister of Alice. Peggy had a "copy" of her marriage license. Ida Miller married first to Mr Kroh, and 2ndly to Ferdinand Enders , on that License (enders - Ida Kroh) was the name of her parents: (Sch. Co. Courthouse) Wendel (Miller) and her mother was Elizabeth WILLIAMS, which means Elizabeth and James Dunleavy's wife Annetta, may be sisters, not that it helps with the relationships somehow. Think that 1900 Census was a mix up with the way the enumerator listed it. We know Sadie Dieter,Deiter was step-daughter not step-sister, from the Baptismal records at St. Paul's (Artz) Church Records in Schuylkill Co. Vital Records book 3; and that Alice was really John's sister, from the Census; but in the census 1900 (June) she is considered single, but her name is under Dunleavy...and they were not married yet - not til August. Dunleavy was a cousin -not step-brother, or a brother-in-law, to be. :) That is if both Dunleavy's wife, Annetta, and Miller's wife Elizabeth were sisters - probably. As for the "Magdalena" Williams with the Millers in 1900, she was a "Mary" Williams living with James Dunleavy and Annetta in 1880 (ages are off). and the wife of William Williams of the 1860 Barry twp. familly. Perhaps you are correct about the Civil war taking the boys, and maybe we will find little Lydia, baby sister (listed in 1860) of the Williams clan had died young, also. I will check the cemetery records, but if they were poor folks, there will be no stone. There is a william williams in Artz' Cemetery record on line at rootsweb. : William williams born 27 Mar 1796 died 31 May 1865, that would fit in the above Census (In 1860, gone by 1870) but what happened to all the boys? We shall try to digest this information and get back on why Lizzie was a Geist, maybe she really was a Geist? Notice in the 1880 Census it listed James Dunleavy as born PA; and Annetta born in PA but...Lizzie is listed born PA, father born Ireland???? mother born PA. (??another error by the enumerator??) Please sleep tonite, the genealogy will only "ripen with age..." :) Yes, the search continues. Where are the Geist family genealogists, when we need them??? Sarah.

    1. [PASCHUYL] More on Miller/Dunleavy/Geist/Williams
    2. I have been doing some more searching this afternoon and I have found that Anetta Williams Dunleavy is the daughter of William & Mary (Magdalena) Williams. I have tracked them back on every census to 1850. William Williams died sometime between 1860-1870. I am wondering if he is the same William Williams shown on Ancestry'c "American Civil War Soldiers" from Schuylkill Co., PA that enlisted 19 Feb 1864 as a Private and was killed on 12 May 1864 at the Spotslvania Court House, VA??? In 1850 there is a Margaret Burkhard (age 51 b. PA) living with William and his wife. Could this be his mother-in-law?? In 1900 Mary (Magdalena) Williams was living with John Miller and Lizzie (Geist? Dunleavy?). It said she had a total of 10 children, only 2 living at the time of the census. How very sad. She had several sons, I wonder if they also died in the Civil War. She had Lewis, Henry, & Adam. The search continues . . . . 1. [PASCHUYL] Migrations
    2. Kelly Jean McEntee
    3. I have noticed a pattern in migration and I'm curious to know if anyone else has noticed the same. It seems to me that a lot of Irish who came to Schuylkill County in the 1850s from Ireland and worked in the mines or slate industry, later moved (or their children moved actually) to industrial areas in NJ. For example, I have a number of families, either my own or related later, who moved to Bayonne, NJ, around 1900-1910. They were in the petroleum industry, usually for Standard Oil, often as machinists or pipe fitters. I find this interesting. Has anyone else found the same? Does anyone know why? Previously I had noticed much migration to Philadelphia, but this is more interesting. While I'm emailing, does anyone else share the following family: US Census, 1880, Pennsylvania, Schuylkill County, Shenandoah, District 202 Campbell, Daniel, 50, Head, Laborer, Ireland Campbell, Catherine, 43, Wife, Keeping House, Ireland Campbell, Thomas, 21, Son, Laborer, Pennsylvania Campbell, John, 20, Son, Laborer, Pennsylvania Campbell, Francis, 19, Son, Laborer, Pennsylvania Campbell, Patrick, 16, Son, Picking Slate, Pennsylvania Campbell, Mary Ellen, 14, Daughter, At Home, Pennsylvania Campbell, Catherine, 12, Daughter, At School, Pennsylvania Campbell, Michael, 10, Son, Picking Slate, Pennsylvania Campbell, Joseph, 9, Son, At School, Pennsylvania Campbell, Margaret, 7, Daughter, At School, Pennsylvania Campbell, Daniel, 5, Son, , Pennsylvania Campbell, Cornelius, 2, Son, Pennsylvania Cuningham, Francis, 26, Brother-in-law, Laborer, Ireland Cuningham, Michael, 24, Brother-in-law, Laborer, Ireland Thanks! 3. Hi Joanne, 1880 Hubley Wendel Miller 45, (c 1835) and wife Elizabeth (?) 43 c 1837 had the following children: Charles 14 c 1866 Katie 8 c 1872 **John 5 c 1875 Lydia c 1877 1890 two additional children, don't know ages Alice M. Ida S. BUT Alice Miller and Francis Dunveavy (Dunleavy) are both living with John Miller (Feb 1875) in 1900, the problem is the relationship between Alice Miller and Francis Dunleavy who are both listed single and rightfully so since they marry in Aug. 1900 at St Andrews, Going back to 1880 James "Dunlavy" Dunleavy(c 1852) wife Annette (c1858) have 2 children listed : Lizzie 4 (c 1875/6) and Francis (son) 1 Lizzie may be the daughter of Annette (?maiden name) and a Geist although listed as though she is a Dunleavy... She is the right age to be married to John Miller, in 1900 both are born 1875. so...if Lizzie was a Geist, she was buzy... she married John Dieter (Deiter) and had Sadie Feb 5 1893 then dumped him --only kidding, he may have died. Married John Miller and had Francis O. Miller, b. April 1895 (Artz record) Francis born 1895 had his grandmother, Annetta Dunleavy as his sponsor now we find if that is LizzieGeist Miller (dau of Annette, who is married to James Dunleavy in 1880,) and the Dunleavys were baptizing a baby on the same day April 3 1897 in Artz, as Francis Oliver Miller was being bap. and Annette stood for both !! Are you as confused as Karen Phillips and I (or is that me) ;) Let me see if I can find a marriage between Annette Williams and a Mr. Geist. someplace. Cuz Sarah
