    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Cordelia may have been a cousin. Another interesting possibility: my mother was always under the impression that Mary Isabella's mothers name was Mary. Mary Shoemaker Zimmerman would have been old enough to be Cordelia's mother. The other possibility is that one of Daniel's brothers (most likely Abraham) married a Mary. Christine Zimmerman is old enough to be the grandma. Your suspicions about the Zimmermans originally coming from Pine Grove may be accurate. Lavina Neifert is Peter Jonathan Shoemaker's mother. Much of her family is from Pine Grove and I'm sure she encouraged his marriage to Mary Isabella. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Beltz, Elsie L. 95y d.o.d. 9/21/1986 I found some information on the West Penn Zimmermans in the Schuylkill County book published by J.H. Beers in 1916. Alfred Zimmerman is profiled in the book: his parents were Thomas and Annie, his grandparents were Samuel and Susan, and his great-grandfather was Leonard Zimmerman. Two other children of Leonard are mentioned: David Zimmerman and Mrs. John Zehner. According to the book, Samuel was born in West Penn Twp. and owned four tracts of land totalling about 300 acres. In addition to Thomas, Samuel's children were Rebecca, Benjamin married Polly Martz, Polly married Samuel Miller, Priscilla married Abraham Halderman, Rudolph married Hannah Donert, Joseph married Polly Schaeffer, and Samuel married Lydia Mautz. (Of the male children, Thomas, Benjamin, and Joseph are definitely buried at Zion in Snyders). While it's still possible that your Zimmermans (and mine) are somehow descended from Leonard, I'm also beginning to wonder if they came up through Berks County. With regard to pioneer families, Zimmerman is a far more common name in Berks and Lancaster Counties than in Northampton. I'm seeing that there were Zimmermans established in Albany Township, Berks Co. by the mid 1700s. In my own family history, more than one group made the jump from Albany to West Penn. We might be tied in with the Pine Grove Zimmermans, too, although I looked at those records when I went to Pottsville and I couldn't find a fit for my Daniel. Intriguing observation that P.F. Leiby's wife could have been a Zimmerman...the Leibys are well established in that part of Schuylkill County, and were originally from Berks County. (They are distant cousins of mine.) There's a published Leiby genealogy that probably holds the answer. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: sbny357 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.schuylkill/11393.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The best way to find a death record is to order a death certificate from the Pa. Dept. of Health. If you know the year of death, the fee is $9. You could also check with the Historical Society of Schuylkill County, which has indexes to church records and obituaries, although they mostly cover years earlier than 1968. The Pottsville Free Library has copies of local newspapers on microfilm. You may also be able to order them through Interlibrary Loan. If you can narrow down the month of death through the SSDI, then you could possibly order just the month you need to look at (and hope that he/she didn't die at the end of month and have their death notice published the following month). There are no Zimmerman's in Weisenberg, Northumberland (John Shoemaker's birth place) or West Penn until 1810. Apparently, many people migrated to this area from elsewhere in the early 1800's. The Zimmerman's found in West Penn in 1810 are likely related to your Daniel. I'm just not sure what their relationship might be to Cordilla (probably Cordilia). When you get the chance to peruse the Oddfellows Cemetary records, here is some other information that might be helpful: Edward Eveland (1813) had 8 children with his 1st wife, Rebecca, and 8 children with Cordilia (1843) whom he called Cotilla. According to the 1880 census, his children with Cordelia were: Ellen (1862), Susan (1865), William (1867), Carrie (1869), Harry (1872), Charles (1875), Ida (1877) & Effa (1880). Mary Isabella Eveland (1859) was married to Peter Jonathan Shoemaker (1862). I think 3 of their children are buried there as well - Elsie Beltz (1892), Gideon Ralph Russell (1899), William Arthur Stanley (1903). There may also be an infant (Mary Isabella) who would have been born around 1891. One other thing that may be significant: Cordelia's brother Moses is living in West Penn with P. F. Leiby in the 1860 census. Perhaps his wife is a Zimmerman. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Joseph D KAUP [19 Jan 1824-8 Feb 1903] is believed to be a son of Jacob KAUP and Elizabeth, [thought to be a daughter of William and Rebecca Bossert DORNBACH]. Jacob is likely a son of Christian KAUP [d1805 Brunswick Twp.] and Catherine, and a grandson of Christian and Barbara KAUP. Jacob and Elizabeth had children baptized at Friedens Little Schuylkill and Zion Red Church. When Pastor Daniel Schumacher prepared a fraktur commemorating the baptism of Christian KAUP [b1775] he used the spelling KAUPP. Pastor Schumacher baptised, confirmed and probably officiated at marriages of three generations of Christian and Barbara KAUP's family. KAUPP is the same spelling used in the signature of immigrant Christian KAUPP who arrived aboard ship Snow Fox, 12 Oct 1738, and is believed to be the Christian KAUPT who was on the building committee of St Paul {Blue] Church, where Christian and Barbara are on communicant lists and where some of their children were baptized. Records of that church are variously translated and interpreted/transcribed as KAUP/B and RAUP/B. It is possible that both RAUP and KAUP families attended that church.
