I have located an obituary which might be for one of my ancestors. It states that the funeral took place at his residence in Connor's Patch, then proceeded to St. Joseph's Catholic Church where Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father McCullough, and internment was made in the parish cemetery. I've located 2 St. Joseph's churches, in Ashland & Girardville (which has a Connerton St. nearby). I found several records of my family in this new data base on Ancestry.com. "If you have Pennsylvania ancestors who fought for the country, you'll want to take a look at the Pennsylvania Veterans Burial Cards, 1777-1999, database. County veterans affairs offices started creating these cards back in 1929, but their work stretches all the way back to the French and Indian War." http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=1967

He was married to Ann McGovern (nee McGovern). They probably married in Ireland and arrived in the USA between 1842 and 1848 since they appear to have had a child born in Ireland in 1842 (Richard) and their first child born in USA (Thomas) was baptized at St Vincent De Paul RC Church in Minersville, Schuylkill County, PA, USA on 19 August 1848. Patrick and Ann McGoverns children seem to be: Richard b. abt 1842 Ireland, d. by 1860 Schuylkill Co, PA, USA Thomas baptized 19 August 1848, St Vincent De Paul RC Church in Minersville, Schuylkill County, PA, USA, death unknown John baptized 1 Nov 1849, St Vincent De Paul RC Church in Minersville, Schuylkill County, PA, USA, death unknown Patrick baptized 23 June 1851, St Vincent De Paul RC Church in Minersville, Schuylkill County, PA, USA, death unknown Bernard baptized 14 November 1852, St Vincent De Paul RC Church in Minersville, Schuylkill County, PA, USA, death about 1825, probably Branchdale, Schuylkill Co, PA, USA. Patrick and his sons were all coal miners. Patrick and Ann McGovern also took in/adopted, and raised as their own: William Dillon b. abt 1861 Ann Maloney b. abt 1872. He was confined to his bed only a little over a week. The deceased soldier was a carpenter by trade, and for many years was an extensive building contractor in Pottsville. Subsequently he removed to Tower City, where for a long time he was in charge of the carpenter work at Brookside Colliery. Under the Cleveland, administration he was appointed postmaster of his home town. After that he resumed his work at the colliery until advancing years compelled him to relinquish active employment. During the war he served in Co. A 20th New York Regiment in which an elder brother, the late William Knecht, served as first lieutenant. The regiment took part in several expeditions down the Atlantic coast to North and South Carolina, also in the Peninsular Campaign. At the Battle of Antietam this regiment lost nearly one-third of its men. After the war Mr. Knecht returned to Pottsville, and took up the pursuit of his trade. He leaves four sons; William F., publisher of the Schuylkill Herald, at Tower City; Edward, at home; John and Harry at West Collingswood, N.J. and two daughters; Barbara, wife of August Lechleitner, of Tower City, and Annie, at home, who ministered to him faithfully during his last illness. He was a member of William Thompson Post of Tower City, in which he always took an active interest. He also leaves one brother and one sister; August Knecht and Mrs. Ignatius Glaser, both of Pottsville. He was born in Germany coming to this country with his parents in 1874 and settling in Pottsville and in 1877 moving to Tower City. Later he was married to Miss Pauline Eisenstake of Mechanicsville, who died four years ago. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic church of Tower City and St. John's Beneficial Society of the German Catholic Church, Pottsville.
