There are several websites which you will find of interest. The actual home was torn down last summer (2009). Loretta Murphy has a website on the history of the Molly murders and the home. http://www.freewebs.com/wigganspatch/ There are additional photos of the home on the Flickr site that I manage at http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/ If you are researching family in East Mahanoy Township or Mahanoy City, then consider joining the Yahoo webpage that I manage on the history/research of the area at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mahanoycitytownship/ Enjoy. Samuel B. Kauterman who was born in July 1827 was married to Jennie Kauterman. I tracked it further to determine that Samuel B. Kauterman's parents were Benjamin Kauterman and Sarah Brown Kauterman who were residents in Berks County. Would be interested in learning if this is the original surname or if it changed. It was the site of a series of grizzly murders in the winter of 1875. The murders were associated with the Molly Maguires and the house where the murders were committed was still standing until a few years ago. It's widely considered one of the most haunted locations in Schuylkill County. http://www.tnonline.com/node/42115 Erin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: karenmeasel196 Surnames: Richards Faulds Mitchell Classification: death Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.schuylkill/11985/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Pottsville Republican Newspaper November 18, 1910 Coldy confessing in an affidavit to a double crime, either of which in some sections would arouse mob fury to such a pitch that lynching would be considered far to good for the fiend, Frank Mitchell was brought from Coaldale to Pottsville this morning and lodged in prison by the State Police after telling how he shot to death Mrs. Mary Richards age 65, at Aucheys in South Manheim Township, when she made a futile attempt to save her daughter from brutish assault. Peter Faulds returned home at 6'o'clock last evening and found his Mother-in Law in a pool of blood and his wife with her face disfigured by cruel blows. A search about the farm failed to find and trace of Mitchell, a youth of 20 years who had been employed there for several months. The State Police were notified and the young fellow was apprehended in the Reading City Hotel today. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There is a gentleman who does research for St. Joseph's but I need to get his name. There is also a cemetary there for St. Joseph's. In the Schuylkill County Historical Society located in Pottsville, Pa they have a book that list some of the graves there. I will get the name of the researcher for you and forward. I hope I have Connor's patch right. I will also verify that info. Sincerely Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
