Please check with your local branch to see if they participate. As you already have the PA State Library website, they have a small article on their participation in the program. To see what is in their collection, do a search with the newspaper title, or a guided search using the word "newspapers" and the name of the community or county {Pottsville or Schuylkill County for example). Not all microfilm can be loaned, but it will surely give ou an idea as to what is available. They also have a researchers list, so that if you can't get the item, someone locally can look at it for you. Again, please post names and dates needed. Author: butlersd1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.schuylkill/1098.1850.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for parents of our Joshua F Fisher. He was born 10 May 1846 in supposedly Schuylkill Co. I can't find a record of his birth anywhere. He first turns up 1860 census in Jefferson Co. in the home of Mary Jane and John Henry Crate. Later in 1870 census he is still in John Henry's home with second wife Barbara Ann. In 1871 he is married to Rebecca Todd Thompson. Joshua Fisher enlisted in 1864 and was discharged in 1865. Does anyone see anything about a Schuylkill Co Fisher family dying in the 1850's. Maybe just the husband or both or just the wife. Anything that would explain why our Joshua ends up in the Crate home prior to the 1860 census? Mary Jane Thrush could not be Joshua Fisher's mother because in the 1860 census she is 20 and he is 12. (Assuming the census was transcribed correctly) I suspect they maybe could be related through the Thrush family, but can't make the connection. Our Joshua named his first born girl Mary Jane. She must have had a significant impact on him, either by being a relative of just being motherly to him. He named his fist born son John (maybe after John Henry Crate) Enoch (middle name after his wife's father). His third born a son was named William Kelso (Kelso is a common name in his wife's family). His fourth born a daughter born, our Grandmother was named Sarah Ann (Sarah was his wife's mothers name). His fifth a son was named Samuel Alexander (might be a clue in this naming). Our family story passed down was that Joshua F Fisher was adopted by a German family in Jefferson Co., but that his folks were from Schuylkill Co. I heard from a Crate researcher that John Henry Crate did not have any adopted children. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
