So if you want people to find your post then put the surnames in your post that if searched on by someone somewhere else in RootsWeb or Ancestry will lead them to your post. You can put none or ones in your post. But hopefully not all the names you research because this would bring readers here that will find nothing they are interested in. So in this case I will not put any surnames in the list. Since I'm not interested in any other posts related to this string of posts I have unchecked the "Send me an alert when anyone replies." Oh one more thing, try to always put a name, date, and place in your query and subject to help readers quickly decide if they can be of help. So for best results if would have been been helpful if you had mentioned what era you thought the Kripplebauer person in the photo lived. It's really good to hear from another descendent of the original immigrant, John Sunderland. I do have the research on the family here on the Ancestry web site so it would probably come up if you do a tree search, if not contact me directly at edelva7334@aol.com and I can email a descendent report to you. I would really like to be able to include the information on your arm of the family to the compendium of descendents. The original John Sunderland, fought in the Civil War and was wounded in the battle at Fredricksburg, he was taken to a hospital in Washington DC and his arm was amputated, after several months in the hospital he was discharged from the Army and given a pension, the site of the amputation never healed properly and John died not too long afterward. His wife was Margaret Brennan, she moved from Schuylkill County about 1902-03 and was in Allegheny County before moving to Chicago about 1904, where she died in 1906. The Surnames field carries the request "Please enter only the surnames discussed in your post." (A request frequently ignored; in the past I didn't even notice it.) I listed all the surnames I had mentioned. Perhaps I should only have listed those that are "mine"; that would have been just "Pepper", since Sweeney is in my tree but not as an ancestor. It would be interesting to know others' views on this issue. I know practically nothing about the Kripplebauers except this photo - of which I have a digital copy, thanks. It would be great if knowledge about the photo would lead to more information about my family, but that chance seems a bit remote. Too bad you don't have any photos to compare this to. If you ever want a copy of the picture, let me know. I'll keep digging around to see what I can find on this mysterious pair. From the 1900 census, Peter & Kate (Adolf) Kripplebauer were born in the neighbourhood of 1870 & married c.1892/3. The only Peppers in Ashland then were my family. In 1890 Peter & Kate lived on opposite sides of the 500 block of Centre St. (within a block of this photographer's studio!). My great-grandfather Thomas Pepper lived another 5-6 blocks up the hill. The only one of the younger Peppers married by 1893 was Thomas's eldest, Frank, b. Jan 1865; the couple in the photo COULD be Frank & his wife Loretta Sweeney (b. c1868) whom he married Nov 1890. Or the Peppers could be brother & sister; in that case there are candidates closer to Peter's & Kate's ages: Thomas R. (b. Feb 1871), & either Hannah (b. Feb 1867) or Mary/"Mame" (b. c1873, d. 1897 of a brain tumour). I don't know how to choose among these, & unfortunately I have no idea what any of them looked like! John M. On familysearch.org is the marriage license application of William Francis McDonnell, 39, of Centralia, plumber, & Catherine Elizabeth Pepper, 39, of Ashland, clerk. They were married 19 Oct 1946 in Harrisburg. Groom's parents were Michael McDonnell & Bertha Hepner, both deceased. Bride's parents were George Pepper (my great-uncle) & Katherine (sometimes spelled Catherine) Walsh. George Michael Pepper, although William Pepper's nephew not his son, took part in running the soda business after William's death in 1925. Eventually he passed it on to his son George Vincent Pepper, who I believe finally ceased production in 1974. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
