Yes, I'm curious about that. The timeframe is within reason. I certainly appreciate that. Becky
Hello Listers...I'm hoping someone may be able to help in my search for information on Helen Parr..... I have a ScotsOrigin copy death certificate for Moses Gamble (D: 6-19-1863 in Dundee, Scotland)...It shows his occupation as "weaver"; his age was stated as 65 years. Father's name was John Gamble; Mom was Catherine Morrison; Moses' wife's name was Helen Parr ( I have no record of her parents' names.) Does anyone recognize the above? Would appreciate any informa- tion... Thanks, Barbara
Ted--I'm the great-great granddaughter of Marcus W. Parr (Va. to Franklin Co., Ga.) I'll check my records for your names and email back to you. Thanks, Linda
My ancestor Benjamin Parr had two brothers who were born in NJ, fought in the Revolution. After the war all three moved to Wilkes Co. NC. My ancestor moved to Georgia and his two brothers moved to TN and later to IN. There names were John and Mathias. Here is the name John again. I have very limited info on the brothers, but if you think there a link I will dig it out. I do not know what the W stood for in John Parr's name. As to where his family ties were...my aunts said that she had heard that his family came from the south and was surprised when she heard that I had found documentation in several areas showing him as born in IN. THanks for response, perhaps I will find someday that the W was for Walter afterall. Becky
Helen, the name John Parr, Sr., in Essex Co., VA caught my attention. Do you know of any siblings? There are several Parr families still in Essex and adjacent counties, including my branch across the river in Richmond County, Va. Originally these two counties were one,"Old Rappahannock County," and are still part of Virginia's historic Northern Neck. My ggg grandparents were James Parr and Frances Pugh (b.1832) Their son, John James Parr, remained in Richmond County, but one of his brothers went north and one went south, and the trail went cold. My sketchy data gleaned from Richmond County records shows that Virginia A. Parr was born to James Parr and Ann Packett in 1802. She married John S. Packett in 1823. Later, a Virginia Parr born in 1830 married James Lewis Packett in 1852. I am very interested in any info that might help me find missing links. Gloria Parr Carlsen July 5th, 2001
Gloria, John Parr Sr. of Essex County, Va., did have one brother, William Parr Jr. (William Parr Jr. was survived by only one daughter, Jane). Their father, William Parr Sr. first bought land in Essex County in 1753, and by 1770 the family had moved to the border area between Pittsvylvania Co., Va., and Caswell Co., N.C. During the time they were in Essex County, there were no other Parrs appearing in any county records. I will try to find what I copied out from the Essex County deed index. I do remember noticing that there were some Parrs at a later date. Thank you Helen. I know we have corresponded before but I just never got that info. I really appreciate you sharing it with me. If you are interested in info of her son, William Thomas just let me know. bonnie
Do you know what the W. in you John W.Parr is for? My father was John Walter Parr, Jr. and his father was of course John Walter. Other grandfathers were John but have no reference as their having middle name. Family tales indicate they were all John Walter. My line is from NC, SC, Maryland, and England. If you think there is a connection, let me know. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Beckyztree@aol.com> To: <PARR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2001 8:02 PM Subject: Re: [PARR] Re: Parr's --Samuel, Arthur, Alfred > Hi, I have been at a stand still with my gg grandfather John W. Hi, I have been at a stand still with my gg grandfather John W. Parr born in the 1820 in IN (I have Crawford Co) I haven't found anything on who his family was. Do you know if your Samuel Parr had a brother by the name of John or ties to Crawford Co? I believe John may have been in Iowa later and I know for sure he lived his married life and until he died in MO. Any possibility of a link? Thanks, Becky
Seth, I found the geocities tree linked on Proud to be Parr as belonging to Wanda Qualls. Somewhere in the middle of the tree I noticed an email address of wandaq@texas.net. Possibly the author of the tree? I am looking for info on the Marcus Parr she listed in Franklin, GA., b. 1810. His children were listed as numbers 87 thru 93 or 94. Possibly one of these children moved to Arkansas. I'm tracking a William Parr, b. Apr 1868 in AR. In the 1900 census of Cooke county, TX, William says both his parents born in GA. William wound up owning and running a cafe in the Los Angeles, CA area in his later years. His granddaughter Juana Veldeen Parr married James H. Carter in 1941. their oldest, Mary Carter has been my bride 40 years as of this just past June 29th. Hope the Wanda Qualls clue turns out well. Ted Wright Ft. Worth, TX
Could include dates and locations so maybe we can find some links? Nancy Parr in NJ at Roses674@aol.com
I am looking for Lynda Jae Breitweiser Who posted a message about Samuel Parr of Knox Co. Ind. I think we have some similar interests. Please email me at link1@psbnewton.com. Thank you Dee Lingafelter
Hi, I hope you find this!! I, too, am looking for ancestry in this area. My great-great grandfather, Samuel Parr, came from Knox Co. Ind. Born Dec. 15, 1828. Married Molinda Skaggs, Sumner, Ill. Samuel Parr's mothers name was Catherine Parr of Knox Co. Ind. That's as much background info as we know. I can go forward with Samuel and Molinda's children, etc. Looking for Samuel's mother, Catherine Parr, and his father. I live close to the area these people came from. I have run across Samuel Parr and Amanda Grubb. All we have to do is make the link somewhere. I have been looking off and on for several years. Email me at link1@psbnewton.com Dee Lingafelter
Only clue I can think of is remark by Hugh to his nephew, James Carter. Looking at a highway sign for Haskell (TX), he commented that he remembered coming thru Haskell in a covered wagon. I think that was as a boy. Cecil was in El Paso, TX, by 1922 because daughter Juana Veldean born there Dec 1922. there were 2 older children (twins) than she who died at birth, but don't know if in El Paso. Haskell would be on the way to El Paso from Cooke county. Or they might have gone back to AR for a while. I think Cecil and Emma maybe met in AR and/or married there. some family rumor thinks Della's maiden name was Hendricks. thanks for this info. Ted

Bonnie, Martha Ellen Parr was the daughter of John Parr (born ca 1796, Lincoln Co., N.C.; died 1852, Ouachita Co., Ark.) and Susan JOHNSTON (or JOHNSON). It has been some time since I asked about the parents of Martha Ellen Parr. She was born in 1837 in Obion County, TN., married Cicero Burt and had two children, William Thomas and Roxana. I believe Cicero died in the Civil War then Martha married Frank Winston. Does anyone have this family in their linage? Thanks, Bonnie Solomon
The Cecil A. Parr that I sent a message about was Cecil Abraham Parr who was listed in the 1900 Cooke County, Texas, census with his father's family. I had replied to a post from Ted Wright on the PARR message board, and I guess those messages make their way onto the PARR-L list too. Sorry for the confusion. My uncle was Cecil Alexander Parr of New Orleans, LA. Is this the same Cecil? He died in the 1990's--I don't have the date handy right now.
