    1. Re: [PARR] SWEET/PARR
    2. There were two Parrs early in New England in 1641 and later. One was Moses and one was Abel, if I remember correctly. Perhaps this has no connection, but there were Parrs and Smiths that intermarried in NJ in mid to late 1700's who possibly had come from New England. I am descendant of John Parr and Mary Corwin who m. 1719, resided in Roxbury, Morris Co., NJ and Queens, LI, NY. I believe that this John Parr may have been a descendant of the early New England Parrs. Mary was part of the Corwin family---Salem, MA/Long Island, NY, either descendant of George who settled Salem or Matthias who settled LI--but were brothers. Mary and John's grandson or grgrandson m. a Mary/Ann or Nancy Smith, dau of Benjamin Smith Jr. and Anne Swayze. It appears that Benjamin Smith, Jr. was the son of Benjamin Smith Sr. who was the son of a Stophel/Christopher Smith. I believe that these two families may be the same as the two you are posting, but I am just beginning to research this possibility. I do know that Bartholomew Corwin b. ca 1690, descendant of George mentioned above, and son of Sheriff George Corwin of Salem---the witch hanging sheriff---came to NJ to escape the backlash of his family's participation in the witch trials and hangings. His father Sheriff George went to Winthrop Neck, Rhode Isand and hid from persecution before his death. Your posting is the first I have seen of the list you give. Prior to that I had seen only the Moses Parr/Mary Sweet marriage. I do think that it is entirely possible that your list is correct. A John Parr appears first ca 1700 in Perth Amboy, NJ (then the seat of govt and commerce) as one of the signers of a petition to the King of England against the Scottish proprietors (assigned by the King) of NJ. I believe that this is the same John Parr who m. Mary Corwin, but I cannot prove it. About 1701 a Matthias/Matys Parr m. a Winnes/Winans in Dutchess Co., NY. Since John Parr and Mary Corwin named one of their sons Matthias, I have been looking for this connection also. John Parr and Mary Corwin had the following known ch: John Parr, Jr., Cornelius, Elihu, Eliphalet, Jess(e), Matthias, Jemima, and Hannah Parr (who married a David Rose.) I believe that I am a descendant of Jesse and his wife Elizabeth. A Thomas Parr appears in NJ in 1690's as an indentured servant to the Gov. I do know that in the early 1700's owners/associators who held large tracts of land advertised in LI and New England for prospective buyers of this NJ land. What is now Sussex Co. NJ was settled by many from LI and New England beginning in the first and second decades of the 1700's. I am sorry I cannot help you more. Nancy Parr in NJ

    2. Hi Marj, Laurie Parr is researching a branch of Parrs from Niagara Falls, Ontario. If your Fred Parr is from her branch . . . not sure. Laurie has posted a query on the Parr Bulletinboard at the Proud to be Parr website, if you would like to contact her. Not sure if Laurie is a member of this list or not. If so, Laurie . . . over to you. 2. Dear Sheryl, Thanks for your reply, and I am very happy to know that the record I found in error did not belong to your mom! I've been doing research for many years now, it is a hobby for me which I very much enjoy. Most of my expertise to date is in the form of researching ancestors, not persons living, but as I was able to locate my own father who had dissappeared for 25 years, who knows, maybe I can indeed be of some help to you. In any case I'm certainly willing to try. I'll email you privately within the next few days so we can touch base. Please understand that I offer my help as a fellow Parr researcher, and not in the interest of your reward. I wish you good luck in your search and I'll be in touch with you soon, Deborah

    3. There were two Parr families in that area, Franklin Co,Jackson Co and Clarke Co. Ga. One was from New Jersey and the other family from N.C. I have never been able to connect the two families. What years are you talking about? Surnames: Parr Abbott Phillips Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wl4.2ACEB/487 Message Board Post: £200 reward for information leading to the contact of my natural mother. My natural mothers name was Jeanette Rose Arlotte Parr from Reading, England, born in 1937. Her mother was french (maiden name was Freville). She married to become Abbott. My twin sister Karen Ann and I were born on June 29 1961 in Dundee, Scotland. We were adopted as babies into the Dunn family via mother and baby home run by a Mrs McMullen. As I understand, my mother divorced Mr Abbott and went to live somewhere in USA on 13th January 1964, I believe she re-married to a Mr Phillips. If anybody can help me I would be eternally grateful. Kind Regards, Sheryl Rose Parr/Abbott

The one I am really interested in is the son of Joel! Joel had a son, William, b. GA, 1868. But I can't connect THAT William to MY William. Drat! If I could, Wanda Qualls has a whole layout on that line of Parrs over on "Proud to be Parr" You piqued my curiosity, tho, with that "Haley". My gg-grandmother was Amanda Alvira Hayley, b. 1-21-1827, d. 3-20-1904, don't know where--possibly MS (or AL) She married a Benjamin Franklin Jones. He was b. in AL, d. in MS, but I have no dates on him. Amanda had a sister, Mary Ann Hayley who married a John B. Thomas. Any of these names ring a bell with you ?
