Hello Park/Parks/Parke/Parkes Cousins: This is going to be a long message, but there is no way around it this time. We now have 366 subscribers to the Parks mailing list. As you probably know our Parks mailing list and Parks GenConnect boards are housed by Rootsweb. Rootsweb and the GenConnect staff have created a "Resource Page" for our Parks surname. You'll find it located at http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/p/a/PARKS/ This page is a great navigational tool. It has unified the "Parks" resources together. The Parks "Resource Page" or sometimes called a "Cluster Page" includes our Parks mailing list (and it's archives), our GenConnect Suite (this includes all 7 boards), any homepages (if anyone has a web page for Parks, it can be linked to our cluster page.), lots of search engines. There is also a place for "Wanted Items and items to be sold (that pertain to Parks), a calendar and guestbook. The purpose of the "Resource Page" is to organize the vast amount of materials on Rootsweb and to make it accessible to the user. Along with our Parks Cluster Page, Rootsweb has created 5,000 new "Surname Resource Pages" and 3,000 new mailing lists, the GenConnect staff has also created new boards (a suite of 7 each) to match these mailing lists. In doing so, they have divided our Park/Parks/Parke/Parkes surnames. There is now a new mailing list and suite of GenConnect Boards with their Resource Page for Park, one for Parke and one for Parkes and of course we still have the Parks Mailing list and GenConnect Boards. I did try to protest this - but to no avail. So if any of your Parks spelled their name as Park or Parke or Parkes you can subscribe to the other mailing list. For PARK send an email to [email protected] with the word subscribe in the body - nothing else and please turn off any signature line. To subscribe to the PARKE mailing list send an email to [email protected] with the word subscribe in the body - nothing else and please turn off any signature line. I am also the list manager for these lists and GenConnect Board suites. I have to remove the Park/Parke/Parkes from the Parks GenConnect Suite. So if you have placed a query or information on the Park/Parks/Parke/Parkes GenConnect boards that really (now) belong on one of the other board sets I'll be moving those shortly, so there is no need for concern. One more thing on these GenConnect Boards i.e.. queries, wills, pensions, obits, bios, deeds and bible records - please remember these boards are a web based query and data system, where the information you provide is automatically and instantly displayed and fully indexed and searchable. This means users can input a query or piece of information on a board and see it displayed, but so can anyone else searching the system for our surname, which will greatly increase our chances of making connections. These boards will even send you an e-mail to let you know that someone has either answered your query or added additional data. This is a very effective tool, so please go by and place a query or information on our Park - Parks - Parke - Parkes ancestors to the appropriate board.
