I am trying to find more information on Sophia Parks, daughter or grandaughter of Rachel Parks. Sophia as history has it, gave birth to an illigitimate son in 1861. (James Monroe Parks) James M. Parks was my great grandfather. He was abandoned on a plantation in Forsyth County, NC. Because of the shame of being illigitimate, none of the children of James Monroe Parks and Ellen Rominger would ever speak of his mother (possibly Sophia) or who may of actually been his father I received the following information in June of 99 from a member of the rootsweb community: "In 1850 Census, a Rachel Parks 65 and Sophie Parks were living together in Rockingham County, NC. If Sophie was a daughter of Rachel she would have been 47 when sophie was born. Most likely Sophie was a granddaughter. When Rachel Died Sophie went to the nearest big city, Winston- Salem, to find work and for what ever reason was left with a child. " I had my father check the census records of Rockingham County, NC. and found that Sophia was indeed listed as being 18 and Rachel was listed as being 65. No Children were listed in this census. In the 1860 census of Rockingham County, NC. - Rachel is listed as being 70 and Sophia as being 35. Rachel aged only 5 years in a ten year span and Sophia aged an extra 7 years. There are two children added in the 1860 census. Elizabeth age 10 and Alexander age 2. No man or father of these two children is listed. I am looking for info on: Rachel Parks b appr.(1785-1790) d appr. 1860 Sophia Parks b appr. 1832 and whomever may have been her mother Elizabeth Parks b 1850 Alexander Parks b. 1858 James Monroe Parks b 1861 If anyone has any information, or these names and birthdates coincide with somone in your family please help me solve this mystery. (Rockingham County, NC area) Thank you Brian Parks
