NOT AMERICAN.. >I went to www.nara.gov and found out that there was a fire that destroyed a lot of their records. But, the nara.gov site supplies a form front and back that can be downloaded and retrieved with Adobe. They won't give inquiries on the internet for privacy reasons which I figured they wouldn't Many years ago, I contacted a military department on the mysterious death of my uncle aboard ship and I was given a returned letter that described the fire. Now, Ifeel they were not just shining me off and it really happened. So much for military records in the first part of the century. . I hope this helps those who have military inquiries. BTW Would Merchant Marines be considered a part of the Dept of Defense or Dept of Transportation? My uncle was a Merchant Marine around 1936 and they claimed he died at sea. It was mysterious way to die and he was an expert swimmer. My other uncle went down to Wash DC and never got any satisfaction on his brother's death. I wish I had interviewed him before he passed away. It is like looking for a needle in a haystack without a magnet.....Doris
